I'm from Cincinnati, and there's been a little bit of an up and coming music scene here(Blessid Union of Souls, Afghan Whigs, Over The Rhine, etc...). Not huge but noticeable. It's attributed to several local bars though in the Clifton area(entertainment/mugging distric). These "bars"(one of which is also a laundrymat!) are the main promoters of these bands. They are also across the street from University of Cincinnati, a college of over 30,000 students. Here, in Cincinnati, the bars are where they want to be. There are a few clubs that could handle them, but not many. Now, next month, they are playing at Shrieve's(sp?) concert hall in Northern Kentucky Univ's campus. Obviously a big step up, but they're gettin' rather popular 'round here. The fact is, in many music scenes, there just aren't enough choices if you eliminate bars for venues. I know, it stinks. I missed many a concert before I was old enough to get in(I missed TMBG once!!!!). However, I just don't think they(MF) can do a lot about it. If you want to change it, contact a local promoter in your area who represents some venue other than a bar, and push for promoter to get MF. Who knows, maybe they'll even listen?
