I travelled there to see a Nields show and was impressed as ever by them. I hadn't seem them since before Mousse came out (I think my last Nields show was on the way back from MIT in May) so I was in for a treat. Now, the reason I'm posting this is to make sure that all you people going to shows where Fruvous and the Nields are playing together get out to see the Nields if they are opening or stay and see the Nields if they are closing. It's a great time. Surprised for me include Dave Chalfant's new electric upright bass and a lot of new songs and a new CD. Mouse, which was released at the beginning of the summer and is only available at shows has like 19 songs on it. In general, it was just a great show. Also, as a last plug for the Nields, they have a new CD coming out on Zoe Records (a division of Rounder and distributed by Mercury) September 29th. And as an even more last plug, I still have an extra copy of Gotta Get Over Greta that I will give someone if they send me a SASE to ship it back to you in (or I can bring it to a show where we will both be at). Email me for more details. - Chad ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Sep 1998 13:12:15 -0400 From: Geenius at Wrok Subject: Re: CJUM Radio Interview Review: Sept 16th, Winnipeg (long) On Sun, 20 Sep 1998, Vika Zafrin wrote: > On Fri, 18 Sep 1998 14:13:31 GMT, the following words of wisdom were > uttered by Drea, in the guise of sirilyan@hotmail.com: > > |> FDC was mentioned in passing, then the topic of a.m.m-f arose - > >specifically the recent 'that isn't Jian doing the intro to Video > >Bargainville' thread: It is me...I'm doing my Nome Chomsky (sp) > >impression. > > *smile* Putting the knowledge forth - Noam Chomsky, who I happen to > be studying right now, because he's a really big name in language > acquisition theories. I couldn't have said it better. You are quickly becoming one of my favorite writers. Your talent and skill of tactfully telling this woman that she might consider a new line of work is utterly amazing. ;) Actually, tho, it's nice to know that cooler heads prevail when such un-enlightened journalism finds it's way into print. So, > Thank You, Doug, on behalf of all of us. You know when the Jianbabe first asked the question about whether the article offended me, I thought to myself: "Nah, not really. The author of the article screwed up and got a bunch of things wrong. That's her problem not mine" It is still true that I don't really have much of feeling one way or the other about the article. I think she was trying to be funny with the "need a life" stuff, but she failed miserably, so that is yet another problem for her. There is no way that I would personally have bothered to answer that thread or write to her or anything else, HOWEVER, that being said, I have to add my kudos to Maige's. Doug that was really an excellent letter. I agree with everything you said in it. Not only does it explain the often misunderstood "phenomenon" of fruheads, it serves as one hell of a definition for why I (and no doubt many of the rest of you) spend countless precious hours pouring over these messages, chatting, and traveling long distances to shows. I think Doug's letter ought to go into the FAQ under the heading "What is a Fruhead?" Again Doug, great job! A.J. PS. (But next time, try to allude to me too when citing all the successful exemplary fruheads!) :D - -- Sig. Sig. Sig. Sig.
