Welcome Gabbie, er, I mean Jane (sorry, just trying to throw in song references wherever I can, even if they are lame and pathetic!). Which album have do you have of theirs? Well, you have come to the right group to express your love of the fru-guys! :) And Richard, just a thought - but *maybe* it would be okay if you made sort of a tape as just a sample - on the condition that if Jane likes what she hears then she will go out and buy the albums that she can get - since it is such a hassle for you guys to get them, then listening to a tape may convince Jane that it's worth it to go through the hassle and support the guys. Just a suggestion... Atwood & Davies have always been favourites of mine anyway.) But so far no-one's mentioned my all-time favourite Canadian author: Charles de Lint. His books can be found in the sci-fi section of most bookstores (my local bookstore now stocks lots of copies, since I managed to get the buyer there hooked!). He classes himself as an urban fantasy writer... and he's fantastic. I can only think of two of his books that actually go together, but most of them overlap in some way... the main character in one novel may be the waitress and catalyst in the next. And, well, the man believes in faery. Alive and well and hiding in the shadows of our modern cities. He's also, by the way, a bit of a musician... ____ \ /__ Caitlin Xantha Hazen \/ / caitlin@wayward-volvo.org \/ http://www.wayward-volvo.org/xanthe.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Aug 1998 09:48:33 -0700 From: Caitlin Subject: San Francisco Date Well, those of us gripers in San Francisco who have finally earned the band's presence are currently being a bit confused... Doug apparently checked with Jude and was told that Tuesday, September 29th is the correct date... but Slim's is selling tickets for Monday, September 28th. Hmm. (The Monday date, of course, would probably make it easier for people travelling any distance...) Slim's is located at 11th & Folsom streets in San Francisco... 8 blocks from my apartment. As previously mentioned, limited floor space is available and there is parking. Doug has already volunteered to get tickets... but maybe I should, since it's easily walking distance for me. :) Meanwhile... are any of our resident bootleggers going to make the trek, or can they help one of us borrow a set-up from somewhere? Oh, and just a reminder to those CA fans... EFO will be at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley this Sunday night... see you there, Nicole? ____ \ /__ Caitlin Xantha Hazen \/ / caitlin@wayward-volvo.org \/ http://www.wayward-volvo.org/xanthe.html ------------------------------ Date: 18 Aug 1998 17:01:11 GMT From: elrond@fellspt.charm.net (Matt James) Subject: Re: Newbie : And Richard, just a thought - but *maybe* it would be okay if you made : sort of a tape as just a sample - on the condition that if Jane likes : what she hears then she will go out and buy the albums that she can : get - since it is such a hassle for you guys to get them, then : listening to a tape may convince Jane that it's worth it to go through : the hassle and support the guys. Just a suggestion... I like this idea, but if she really feels that she cannot pay the highly inflated price of 18 pounds to purchase a Fruvous CD I'd say it's pretty darn fair for Richard to copy 1 or more CDs for Jane. Technically, these albums have NOT been released in Britain at all, and while they are available as imports on-line or in stores they are not domestically available at a domestic price. Besides, I'm sure she'll love the songs and want to buy 1 or more albums anyway ;) Otherwise, Jane, you could wait another 6 months to a year when I make my trip to England and I'll bring over any albums you want ;) - -Matt - -- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Matt James Voice: (301) 231-9898 x. 121 TYC Associates email: mjames@tyc.com Rockville, MD alternate: mattj@charm.net http://www.tyc.com - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: 18 Aug 1998 13:52:05 -0400 From: mikep@-spamblock-izzy.net (Michael Pelletier) Subject: Re: All Things Considered - TOMORROW In article <35d98d94.1221733559@news2.ibm.net>, Colleen Campbell wrote: >Augh! Hey y'all. I was in Canada for so long that I can't possibly post a review, but I'll just give you all some little facts and tidbits that I learned while I was up there. 1. Rosemary is definitely the best hostess ever. Which isn't really news, but is definitely worth mentioning. She also has the 3 best kids in the whole world. 2. Sarah Slean is amazing. Watch for her cd to be released in the next couple months. She's a Toronto-based singer-songwriter who can transport you to another dimension with her music. Somewhat similar to Tory Amos, but better. Much better. 3. Tory Cassis. People in Toronto, people visiting Toronto, people in nearby states and towns....GO SEE TORY! He plays a lot in town. I was lucky enough to see him TWICE last week. But he doesn't seem to realize what a hit he was among the Fruheads. Check him out most Saturdays with his band at the Reservoir Lounge. Tory also plays trumpet with the Swing Gang at Barcode (on College Ave. No name on the sign, just a barcode. It's really easy to miss, but a really, really fun place) on most Wednesdays. Call the clubs or check NOW magazine (http://www.now.com/) for show info. 4. Nickle Creek...American teenagers who were one of the big hits of Summerfolk (sold out of cds by noon on Saturday). They play violin, mandolin and guitar and are just great. Look for them. 5. And finally, Fruvous put on a great show at the main stage. Sorta typical, but excellently performed. Not much time for them to mess around. BUT, their workshop with the Arrogant Worms and the Sirens (amusing female group) was appropriately titled "Pity the Sirens." Much fun for all with a great song by Jian..."The Arrogant Worms hate Summerfolk, buy our disks instead." Thanks to all who made it a perfect 10 days.
