During that time, my net access will be sporadic. So, I'm looking for a volunteer who is interested in being the mailing list administrator for the ammf news to mail gateway while I'm gone, August 10 - September 1. Here are the qualifications: - Generally familiar with the net, email, news - Some familiarity with listserv, majordomo, or something similar - Will be online regularly, several times a day, with no absences expected to last more than a day or two at a time - Reads most or all of the postings in ammf Jason Reiser had told me he was interested, but I've had no luck contacting him over the past few days, and I'm really looking for someone who's going to be paying attention to the list regularly, perhaps he doesn't have time for that. In any case, I need to get someone soon because I'm about to leave. If you're interested, pleace email me at cos@wbrs.org. Actually, Mike referred to Izzy (Isadore) Schwartz at the King of Prussia show; he's a concert violinist, now retired and in his 80s, and he loves the band. (He jammed with them at a for-pay Toronto gig they did in hungrier times.) So I'd say they're a band for young and old alike. The title was used by the crew during filming (1982) in Yuma, Arizona and Crescent City, CA. :) I'll have to agree with Wrenn on the care of t-shirts. I do the same thing and have never had a problem with them. He was doing all these hippy-dippy moves with it, holding on the string and letting it fall, spinning around, and so forth. Should also mention he was wearing a skirt-wrap kind of thingy (hence the Scotsman comment) and I'm sorry to say, I unfortunately noticed at one point that he wasn't wearing any underwear. (You don't want to know.) After just a song or two, a cop came over and confiscated his cane. Too bad the boys didn't see or they might have said something. Not only is "I Shall Be Released" a wonderful song in and of itself, it was the big finale in the Monty Python concert film "The Secret Policeman's Other Ball" which I believe was to benefit Amnesty International. Sting sang it with a slew of other superstars. That will always be my favorite version (think about the obvious Amnesty-related theme), but last night's version was pretty wonderful. I've seen the band six times now and this was the sharpest they've been with the quips -- and the setting allowed them to actually go out into the audience, which was neat. Finally, I thought Mike's Philadelphia song was terrific and more than made up for no Grandpa Fruvous improv. I hope he records it. I saw SO many people > singing alone... For some reason, Philly has the best (in a general corporate sense) Fruvous fans of any place I've been. The Philly show at the TLA which got recorded for Live Noise was the most excellent show I've seen yet and a lot of that was the audience. It is just amazing being around 1000 people who know what is going on. They were silent during Fell in Love (and I mean completely silent), they laughed at the funny stuff, they even patiently listened to Jian talk about Some Kind of Wonderful for over 15 minutes (enjoying a little sit before Raja). It was the most incredible thing. The only thing that comes close is a theatre filled with Indigo Girls fans all singing the music right along with Amy and Emily on stage. That was incredible too (though it would have been even better if my seat wasn't in the second balcony). I would guess that they've played for awhile now in Philly and the town has just sorta gotten the clue. XPN helps out a lot. And maybe Philadelphians are just better people than the rest of us. I don't know *grin* - Chad ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 Aug 1998 10:42:39 GMT From: Bonnie Conrad Subject: RE: KOP 8/2 What an amazing show last night! I still haven't recovered. Definitely the biggest Fruvous crowd I've ever seen. Everyone I talked to said it was the biggest crowd ever at the Sunday night concert series. I got there late after working all day, so I missed most of the opening act & didn't catch her name. She sounded OK - I liked most of what I heard. The setlist has already been posted, but a few standouts for me were: - - hearing the Greatest Man in America for the first time in ages - - hearing Laika for the first time ever - great new arrangement - - the most amazing cover of I Shall Be Released I've ever heard. The former best cover was 10 years ago and was an ensemble piece with Tracy Chapman, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen & Joan Baez. Fruvous beat it hands down - that's how good it was. We didn't hang around after the show because I had to be at work at 7:00 this morning & because I got there late I didn't get to talk to a lot of other fruheads. Sorry about that - I wasn't being unfriendly, just exhausted. Thanks to all who helped make this show possible.
