You are in school, going through puberty and under parental control. Things like fashion and the opposite gender are becoming important socially and you may or may not know it yet. The lines between popular and unpopular kids are growing more firm. A year is a very long time and the word future is an annoying abstract used by parents. It doesn't apply to your situation. You feel like you know enough to be treated as an adult but parents want you to remain a child. Your peers range from kids who still try to hang onto their childhood toys to kids who are sexually active. Life is becoming very based on your friends and family is becoming more a nuisance than anything else. Those friendships are becoming more complex than they were when you only a couple years younger, and social politics are rapidly developing. So It's a tough age. You lived this though so you can go back there. You'll remember it if you look at your childhood like you would any other memory rather than as a separate section of your life. Remember who your worst enemy was and your best friend. What was your facvorite class, first crush etc. all that stuff So, put yourself there in a kids head. You'll start to remember how it was. Asking parents about what their kids are thinking at this age won't get you far though. Any kid that age will tell you that their parents do not understand them or their situation and they are often right. For a good fictional portrayal of kids that age watch Roseanne. It's in syndication on a few channels. Also read the newspaper column "Ask Beth" It's like dear Abby only mostly for teens and the early 20's set.
