This week I have heard TMDR's music in unexpected places on two occasions. The first occurred on Sunday at my company's holiday party. During the pre-dinner meet and greet at the party the DJ played Valley of the Minds Eye. I looked around to see if Dennis Alexander - who has been lurking much lately, and referred me to the company, was there. He wasn't so there was no influence there. The next spotting was just now. I was surfing the net and flipping TV channels (yes, I have no attention span) and came across one of those variety shows on Univision or Telemundo (one of those Spanish language networks). They had a Magician doing a trick with Armegeddon from Gate To The Minds Eye as the background music. - -Keith (no longer the sole inhabitant) Stansell Powered by two women speaking a language I don't understand about what - I have no idea on Univision. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Dec 1998 09:23:24 -0600 From: John_Hanson_at_FRMA01@ccmailgw.mcgawpark.baxter.com Subject: Re[2]: Alloy: Jungle Line - --IMA.Boundary.3910793190 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Description: cc:Mail note part > >Anyone remember the first time you saw the "Thriller" video (the twenty >minute version)? My brother is a flight attendant for Lufthansa (and yes, he likes show tunes and embroiders tablecloths in his spare time -- along with rewiring my mother's house and relandscaping her yard every time he comes back to the 'States for a visit.) He's an old guy now (50) and he serves as the purser for flights within Europe, working, primarily with the first class passengers. At least once a month, he handles a Frankfurt to Paris run. Invariably there will be some Parisian passenger who decides to make disparaging comments about Lufthansa, Germans, etc., you name it -- usually directly to my brother, who, despite speaking German better than English anymore, is American. If said passenger continues to be a total pain in the ass, my brother gets revenge on him by torturing the announcements in French (he's fairly fluent in French, Italian, and Spanish.) I get the giggles every time he demonstrates his form for me: "Bone joooor, mes-dams et mon-sewers. Beeee-en-ven-oooo..." It gets worse from there. Usually, says my brother, the offending passenger will hit the attendant light, my brother goes over, the guy apologizes, and Michael finishes the announcements correctly. Says Mike, "Nothing that a Parisian hates more than hearing French crucified." Is he right, John? I don't speak more than 10 words of French, and I was too shy to try any of them when I was in Paris, for fear of screwing up. - -- Melissa R. When you say "movie poster cover" I believe you mean the one where he appears to be tinkering with an electronic radion sort of device, with himself in a wheelchair in the background? Does this mean that the version with Urges on it actually has a DIFFERENT cover then? The 2 versions I have are exactly the same except for the "promo labels" and of course the track listings. << haven't managed to track this single (The Wreck Of The Fairchild) down yet, although I have heard '>Fairchild', thanks to Keith's mix tape. It was a rather odd bit, wasn't it? >> Wow, is ther another Dolby song out there I haven't heard of then? or is this the same song and just Keith being lazy not writing the full title? Yep, that'd be the one. The artwork of him on the cover reminds me of a mad scientist movie poster from the 50's. I believe it's actually a magazine cover, though, what with the 'Spring Issue' and '6p' markings on it. >Does this mean that the version with Urges on it actually has a DIFFERENT >cover then? Yep. Completely different cover. This one has him in a tan (?) suit on a stage with a globe and a telescope and a table holding a scale and books and various other background metalworks. He's holding an open book and is looking at a moving figure in a white or grey robe. On the back, along with the lyrics, is a miniature version of the artwork from the standard cover. This is also the same artwork that's on the front cover of the 12in single of Europa, which has Leipzig and Therapy/Growth on the B side. I was living in Akron when the movie was made, and this caused quite a bit of fuss. According to scuttlebutt, Cleveland itself wasn't 'Cleveland' enough for the movie people, so they built sets in California to impersonate it, even down to the WMMS billboard. As you can imagine, we spent months wondering how the genuine article wasn't good enough. Although it looks polynesianish because every syllable has a vowel in it. :) I have no idea what language it is, but the Hawaiian alphabet doesn't have an "s" in it.. maybe it's the native american language Kate speaks? I haven't seen this mentioned before in Alloy but I'm getting an earful from my brother-in-law. He is SOOOO convinced that the world will come to a grinding halt and mayhem will follow that he has purchased a house in Idaho, is stocking up on canned food and water, and is putting all of his savings into gold. By this I mean he will literally have gold pieces with him, not that he has invested in the stock market. I am so sick of hearing about the doom and gloom aspect of the Y2K that I could scream! I think that there may be some problems but I think most of this is being hyped by computer/software companies for the purpose of making profits OR by people who simply need something to complain and worry about. In my high school graduation photos you can see the Golden Gate Bridge from the football field where our commencement took place. But, that crazy little thing called love took me all the way to Ohio. Most people think I'm nuts for having made this move but Ohio is a much better place than I gave it credit for. (My mom was born and raised in Ohio and left when she was sixteen, never to return until my wedding three years ago -- She raised me to believe Ohio was a terrible place to be. Perhaps it was a good thing after all that they didn't use the real city. Along this same vein, there was another movie out a while ago, Little Giants with Rick Moranis, that was supposedly set in Urbana, Ohio. However, they didn't make it in Urbana, they made it in CA, and changed the name to Urabania. For those who have seen it, there are NO hills in Ohio (I miss that. and the ocean).
