What, pray, are >STI levers? Dunno exactly what STI stands for, but the levers are those fancy-dan brake & gear levers combined (for drop bars). Beauty is, you never have to take your hands off the bars when you change gears (even betterer than bar-end levers !). You can even change gear whilst standing on the pedals out of the saddle. Once you've got them, you wonder how you ever did without them. Same as automatic or clipless pedals. I hate not being attached to the pedals. I used to have toeclips, but detest them now as being ultra dangerous. Not being able to take your foot off the pedal in emergency scares me, with toeclips, the more you wriggled your foot in blind panic, the more you seemed to be stuck. With Look or SPD's if you panic & wriggle your foot, hey presto ! you're free. I just have to be clipped in; on the Micro with no clips, I've slipped a foot off the pedal no end of times & don't like it. >It's now registered on TWO recovery databases, and with the fuzz. Super, t'rific, incredible? Oh yes, I saw them on a bike I was looking at a few months ago. Whatever will they think of next? I had a good look, but couldn't work out how you could change UP. >Same as automatic or clipless pedals. I hate not being attached to the pedals. I'm still a toeclip man, though I rarely have them strapped tight. It's not worth it for just commuting. I HAVE got Shimano shoes and could attach the cleats and go for auto pedals, but never have got around to it. One of these days I guess. > >>It's now registered on TWO recovery databases, and with the fuzz. > > Which ones ? Is it just UK only ? > TAG-IT and The Bicycle Security Register. So far as I know, only valid in the UK. However, I have no intention of having it nicked. It's double cable-locked to a steel bench when in the shed at home, and to a concrete bike stand in a private car park covered by 24 hour security when at work, and one of the cables is a Cambridge, guaranteed against theft for up to £500 if the bike is nicked due to its failure or breakage. Tangentially, my department are coughing up £100 towards the cost, as I qualify for a long service award, having been in their employ for over 25 years. Dog, it makes me feel old.
