I don't know what I was thinking (I don't even remember if there is a Chris here) but I meant to direct my long-winded note to Chuck over the loss of your kittens. Sorry for the error (at least I got the first letter of the names right...) I've seen it showing as a new recording due out January of 1999 but nothing else. Melissa & Elaine, Have a good one, Trev... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Nov 1998 16:33:00 -0800 (PST) From: Elaine Linstruth Subject: Re: Alloy: Happy Birthdays... Hey, thanks much! I have heard from Melissa, as I do every year now, bein' as we're birthday buddies 'n all. She is doing okay & will be back on Alloy RSN. Something about a corticosteroid shot in the wrist and wrist braces, and a family history of carpal tunnel syndrome. The poor thing! But we both appreciate the sentiments and I'm sure she'll be joining us momentarily. The date is the 1st.. All Saints Day, from which the All Hallows Eve became the more popular holiday. ;) Gee wonder why. My present was a collection of CD's, among them Miles Davis and Wendy & Lisa, which I learned about from this list. He couldn't find the older discs, but got me the new (!) W&L, the one dedicated to Wendy's brother who died of an overdose. You might remember when the Smashing Pumpkins member was ousted due to a heroin OD -- Jonathan Melvoin was the one who died in that horrific situation. Anyway, the disc is understandably melancholy, but I like it a lot. It makes me want the others now! Thank you (was that Slarv that recommended them?) To catch up, which I've been slacking off doing lately -- Stacey: you _are_ a technical genius! I read an article some time ago about how the home maker/family raiser/meal planner/comestibles buyer/etc person is akin to a CEO of some major companies. I, too, am an at-home mom. The stigma befuddles me. Now that I have a toddler and have to keep up with her, and the household, and all that goes with it, I sometimes long for the days when all I had to do was show up in the morning for work, and go home in the evening. And, cheers to you playing pool.. we know how much fun leagues of pub games can be. Chris and I have been (steel-tip) darts shooters for many years now. I, of course, suck, now that I don't go anymore, but he is still pretty good. We still play here at the house too. Michael, Trev, Lazlo & others: you guys were talking about digital recordings on vinyl. I don't know about pop music, but I do know that Telarc was putting out all-digitally-recorded classical on vinyl in the mid & late 1970's. Sounded damn good too. There is a whole big contingent of people who swear by vinyl to this day and spend awesome amounts of cash on analog equipment to go with it. I didn't get too heavily into it, but if you're interested there is definately a big resource to be perused. Robin: my machine is a Brother Galaxie 221. And what a horrible thing to have happen, the teddy bear story! Awwwww! My friend in VA told me to start with some toddler pants with elastic waists, so I'll let you know how that goes. Thanks for the offer of help, I might need to take you up on it. :) Crackers: thank you for the Atari help! I did spend some time poking around those URL's. I still don't have my unit fixed. It was supposed to be a birthday present, but you know. Men! Anyway, I also thought of you this morning when checking out the more "offbeat" CD's in my collection. Have you heard of the group "Those Darn Accordions" ? I have one of their discs and I thought to myself, "hey I bet Crackers wouldn't think this was goofy, he'd dig it!" re: Beatnik licensing agreements: Yay!! It's what we (Chris and I) were *just* *saying* needed to happen. Guess Thomas knew that too huh. ;) We were discussing Beatnik in the car, actually, on the way to Hollywood. THAT infamous trip to Hollywood. Thanks again Robin.. and forgive my ramblings. I actually go through my Alloy mails and take notes, then put all my little snippets into these one-size-fits-all messages. We would like to start a family in a couple of years after we've relocated & settled. I see friends who are raising young families & it seems a superhuman feat!
