I hope you know that we are all incredibly appreciative of all your hard work,...and heavens knows that it doesn't matter WHEN the CD appears,....far more important that you don't stress over the project and make it ready in your own time,...the last thing the tributaries want is for you to worry over this! (AND I'm sure Thomas will be thrilled by the CD irregardless of when he receives it!!) Thanks so much! Well, I sent out a resume last night, and already had a call back on it this morning -- I have an interview this afternoon. It's with the International Child Art Foundation, which promotes creativity and artistic potential in children through art festivals and arts education. Though I doubt it would pay very much, it would be a chance to be back in the creative sphere, and working with kids - I know how much I got out of all the encouragement I got for my drawing and writing as a kid, and this would be a wonderful opportunity to give something back and do something fulfilling. The job is Manager of International Programs, organizing international art festivals, etc. Cool, huh? Well, we'll see what happens! (Plus the job is at Dupont Circle, the funkiest part of DC...) Fingers, toes, eyes (and anything else knot-able) are crossed right now. Cheers, Nervously, Melissa ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Oct 1998 17:10:12 -0400 (EDT) From: Chris Cracknell Subject: Re: Alloy: Hear Hear! I didn't take a peek at the CD cover yet to keep it a suprise. I'm sure Thomas will understand the project's late arrival and it probably won't arrive all that late. Besides, the "greetings" will get there on time. Is it too early to take dibbs on next year's Project B-Day? If not then I'd like to place a dibb on "Hyperactive". I apologize for being "gone" such a long time. Here are some belated responses: Europa: GO CUBS!!! Although I just saw the 10th inning of Braves v. Cubs on Thursday evening and am resigned to "Same Cubs, Different Year." But wouldn't Harry be proud. See I knew there was another reason I liked you. Crackers: regarding Atari games, I wish I had the programming smarts. Seeing as I don't, for now I'll just content myself with finding some games to play. eBay has some, but I don't know if they are good deals. The chewed-up cord on my unit is the video cord, has to be fixed or replaced or whatever. Trev: was that you with the Atari clock? I want one!! Where do I get one? Oh, and Trev: in reference to Barcelona, being the biggest club in the world owned by its fans, I have a question. Didn't Ronaldo leave cause he didn't like how the club was run? Or did I get bad information? Melissa and Robin: My mom sent me her old Brother Galaxie 21, circa 1970 or so. In shipment it was evidently dropped, but I'm having another shop give me a second opinion on its fixability. I'm not "into" sewing, but I would definately like to be. *sigh* now it looks like I've gotta go new-machine shopping, which is not something I was interested in. Starting from scratch, so any ideas would be great. Jen: Welcome! I took a look at the pionus page, it's very cool. Some of them reminded me of my Quaker. We had to leave him behind when we moved from VA to CA.. not just for the late-summer (hot) trip, but because they are illegal in California. ;) S.W. and harmony2: Welcome! And tell us more about you! Harmony, I am still confused about the song reissue deal, but I did find a good biography at www.allmusic.com, and it describes the evolution of events in TD's discography. My apologies to anyone that has posted that URL before. I found it by accident and wish I had paid attention when/if it was posted here a long time ago. It's worth a read for the TD fan. S.W.: post more, tell us about you & your mom-status, much like mine and soon-to-be Dr. BethMom's. Speaking of Dr. BethMom: Cool elk story! And I probably don't have to tell you, go out and do stuff like that now, while you can. "How's the little mama doing?" Are you sick of people asking you that, yet? Tim_The_Copse: I would love to have a copy of your brother's poetry book. But please let us know how much $ to send. I hate to think he's not going to get paid for his work. Slarv: Any pictures of your Kielder experience? 42 out of 63 is pretty great. And re: your Slarvicam, I second the motion. We are actually considering it for next spring, as we've had baby birds born in a nest outside our back sliding door for two springs running now. This year, they nested twice! I got some great video. Wish I knew what kind of birds they were. Anyway, if you do the Slarvicam I'll do the BabyBird cam, and maybe we'll get some other Alloyed to cam up for the camera too. Dennis: I read your Scotland story with growing interest, as I have a line on my family history and more than one road points there. The Coltrain clan originates supposedly (as Coltran or Caltran at the time) from the lowlands District of Galloway, and my grandma's mama emigrated as a young woman from Scotland, and her name was Nona McLean. I can hear the bagpipes warming up! I also read a really neat article on the plane, about the Kintyre peninsula. Now I *really* *really* want to visit Scotland. (Where are all these cool-sounding places anyway..) Ok. That is quite enough for now, I apologize for droning on and on. Hope Melissa's job interview goes smashingly well, and I apologize again for anyone I've overlooked. I'm workin' from notes here, actually. Keepin' up with this list sometimes resembles homework, from hell ;) - -- Elaine (Coltrain) Linstruth Palmdale, CA (USA) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 Oct 1998 00:51:05 +0100 (BST) From: IT Admin - Govt Office North West Subject: Re: Alloy: Hi! Yes, I took some pictures for posterity. I'll scan a couple of the best ones next week, zip them up and send them out. Do you want individual copies or should they go on the 'Names To Faces' pages? Or both? >Anyway, if you do the Slarvicam I'll do the BabyBird cam, and maybe we'll get some other Alloyed to cam up for the camera too. > Regretably I don't have the kit to do a Slarvicam, so the stills will have to suffice. Any questions you might have along the way, please feel free to ask... I'm still learning too, but I might be able to help you through the technicalities. I know you'll do really well :) You'll be an expert in no time. What are you planning to make? When you go shopping for machines, remember to ask if the store offers classes; if they don't, seek out a local adult ed class or find someone to give you private lessons. I was a complete newcomer too just last year... the worst part was getting over the intimidation factor. I though that because I am so familiar with power tools, figuring out a sewing machine would be a piece of cake - but sewing is more complex! It's good to have someone demonstrate how to thread the machine, regulate thread tension, change the sewing foot etc. Once you know the basics, then just practice all you can on small projects such as hems & simple alterations to build up your confidence. My own machine is a White brand (a division of Viking I believe) with all metal parts, which I found on sale at JoAnn fabrics for $119 last summer. It has two stitches & varying lengths of stitch. It's held up wonderfully & I use it all the time with no trouble - except that which i create for myself through inexperience of course :) I hear that Singer machines, even though they are made with some plastic motor parts nowadays & *supposedly* aren't as long-lived as all-metal ones, are still very highly recommended. For a first machine you don't need anything fancy or computerized, just stick with the basics... all you really need is straight & zig-zag to start off with. <> You weren't droning! It was great to hear from you, I was wondering how you were doing. Your sewing machine loss made me so sad when you wrote before! take care, Robin T ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V3 #263 ***************************
