This album came out in at least five different variations, which are outlined in the famous Lazlo Nibble discography at: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?dolby From your description, it sounds like you have the "4th" version as detailed on Lazlo's TGAoW chart. I don't have this variation myself, but it seems to match the songs you mentioned. And why were the songs changed? Because the record company could, I guess. They had various re-edits and alternate versions, and sold them in a plethora of ways to get as much money as they could. They got plenty of mine! :) BC On Mon, 14 Sep 1998, harmony2 wrote: > This is probably covered in a FAQ somewhere, but it wasn't in the FAQ I > read... > > When I was a lad, I bought "Golden Age Of Wireless" as an LP. I don't know if the interpretation ever appeared on vinyl, but it went something like this... Synths go "der der der, der der der, der der der, der der der, de, de de then a more "bassy" syth comes in, going "duh der duh der, duh der duh der" just about then a sampled voice (sort of an accelerated female voice) comes over going "blinded me blinded me blinded me blinded me with science, science,"; organ type synth goes "der der derrrrrr der, der derrrr der"; TMDR sounds like he's clearing his throat and starts "it's poetry in motion... etc etc". Much harder than the single/album version. Great. John PS made me smirk, typing all that up. - --IMA.Boundary.174858509 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; name="RFC822 message headers" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Description: cc:Mail note part Content-Disposition: inline; filename="RFC822 message headers" Received: from ns1.baxter.com (159.198.180.56) by ccmailgw.mcgawpark.baxter.com with SMTP (IMA Internet Exchange 2.1 Enterprise) id 005B283F; Tue, 15 Sep 98 05:02:02 - -0500 Received: from siren.shore.net (siren.shore.net [207.244.124.5]) by ns1.baxter.com (8.9.1/8.9.1) with SMTP id FAA00246 for ; Tue, 15 Sep 1998 05:02:56 -0500 (CDT) Received: from smoe.org [204.167.97.154] by siren.shore.net with esmtp (Exim) id 0zIrsu-0005pi-00; Tue, 15 Sep 1998 05:58:56 -0400 Received: from localhost (daemon@localhost) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/listq-jane) with SMTP id FAA22581; Tue, 15 Sep 1998 05:57:52 -0400 (EDT) Received: by smoe.org (bulk_mailer v1.10); Tue, 15 Sep 1998 05:57:52 -0400 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/listq-jane) id FAA22564 for alloy-outgoing; Tue, 15 Sep 1998 05:57:26 -0400 (EDT) Received: from kumr.lns.com (root@kumr.lns.com [140.174.7.1]) by smoe.org (8.8.7/8.8.7/daemon-mode-relay2) with ESMTP id FAA22560 for ; Tue, 15 Sep 1998 05:57:20 -0400 (EDT) Received: from dolby.lns.com (dolby.lns.com [140.174.7.16]) by kumr.lns.com (8.8.7/8.8.5) with SMTP id CAA23654 for ; Tue, 15 Sep 1998 02:57:16 -0700 (PDT) Date: Tue, 15 Sep 1998 02:57:16 -0700 (Pacific Daylight Time) From: Brian Clayton To: "alloy@smoe.org" Subject: Re: Alloy: Question about Golden Age Of Wireless In-Reply-To: <35FDDF9D.ABC00624@swbell.net> Message-ID: X-X-Sender: stemish@kumr.lns.com MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-alloy@smoe.org Reply-To: alloy@smoe.org X-To-Unsubscribe: Send mail to "alloy-request@smoe.org" X-To-Unsubscribe: with "unsubscribe" as the body. From my high-school French, I think that the translation would be "A smile never comes by itself, here is another,.." and then the rest as given. Of course, John would know best for sure. (That original French phrase was "un sourire ne vient jamais seul en voici une autre, elle aussi dans l'air.. (du temps)" ) By the way, AltaVista's translation service completely threw up its hands at "Ou se niche le machisme," and it exhausts my very limited knowledge of the language, so anyone else have an idea there? (AltaVista just translated it as, "Or niche machisme," which I thought was pretty funny.) Being a Scottish lad meself (at least the 1/16 or 1/32 that makes up my birth-right), I just got back from the Longs Peak Scottish/Irish Festival and Highland Games in Estes Park Colorado and had a wonderful time! Havn't been to Scotland yet but I havn't missed this festival in the last 5 years. Got to drink Guinness and 18 year Scotch. Didn't get to the haggis as they ran out but I probably wouldn't have touched the stuff anyway. (Seems every culture has at least one 'unique' and terrible dish). My sister loved the dog show (she's obsessed with the critters), bought 2 knives (she's not as gentle as she appears) and a bunch of celtic jewelry. And for me, there's nothing like a good Tattoo (the pipes and drums in uniform kind). They have contests everywhere for everything; dancing, dog shows, tossing the caber, Tattoo competitions, etc... And to make things just right, it rained a lot. So much that some of the time, you couldn't see the 14ers (peaks over 14,000') that surround Estes Park, a very beautiful place in it's own right. Then in the evening we went to a folk concert that should have been labeled a 'folk/rock' concert. First it was Men of Worth doing fine Scottish and Irish folk music, then it was Seven Nations blasting out the high school auditorium with amplified bagpipes and metal guitars! (The older folk filed out as soon as they could!) All four members wear kilts and do an array between modern folk and hard rock that's just too incredible not to pass up! They tour internationally, so maybe you'll be able to catch them sometime. I havn't gone in a kilt myself yet but that would have to be because of financial matters ($400 just for the kilt, never mind the accessories!). ___________ JAMac (Dennis S.
