[Chris Cracknell Subject: Alloy: A Breakthrough! Tonight, I finally made progress. But the progress wasn't on the song I last signed up to do. Now I'm doing "Mulu The Rain Forest" So for those who are keeping score, change my listing please! The reasons for the change are simple. As I venture in this new territory of electronic music for me, I discovered several things: 1. MIDI software can be quite complicated. 2. My ability to hit the correct notes on a keyboard are limited to a few at a time. 3. My ability to work out a percussion track and base line are just about non existent at this time. 4. I trust my ability to sing more than my ability to create the music to go with it. So, while listening to White City I let the CD keep going and I heard Mulu play. I thought, "hey, there are no drums!", and "hey, it's mostly singing and a simple accompaniment. So, tonight I started working on it, and in a short time I finished the intro part up to where the singing starts. Whoo Hoo! I'm excited, I'm actually doing something musically! Now, back to our regularly scheduled program. - -Keith ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Aug 1998 02:53:48 EDT From: CJMark@aol.com Subject: Re: Alloy: Re: Dolby on Sale Wow... those sound like great prices.. !! It's an internet auction site where people go to trade all sorts of stuff. Very legit, very well-organized. I have been looking for a new receiver for my stereo, so I've been doing searches on all the web auction sites. I did a search on eBay (www.ebay.com) for "Dolby" (for Pro-Logic receivers) and I came up with interesting results: 1. Someone has the Blinded By Science Promo 12" on auction for $1.69 -- there are no bids so far, the auction closes at 20:52 PDT tomorrow (8/5/98) -- someone who wants it could have it for under $2, with $3 shipping. 2. Someone else has something called The Bob from 1982 (I assume it is a magazine) featuring an article on TMDR. That's going for $7.50 right now. Nobody's bid on that either. Never thought I'd find this stuff looking for stereo equipment! Have fun -- eBay is a safe, nice place to buy and sell nifty stuff. You can get the scoop on buyers and sellers through comments and reviews from previous customers, plus there are nice descriptions of the condition of all the goods... I was walking home after dropping the wee beastie off at day camp and was thinking to myself, "I should fix up my fiddle so I can use it on my contribution this year. And I should really get myself a set of fine tuners." They're these wee things that go on the tail that let you fine tune the strings because it's a real pain in the ass to get a good tuning using nothing but the wooden pegs. Well I look down, and there at my feet is a violin tail with fine tuners built in. And it's in perfect shape too. It was trash day on this street and the garbage men had already been by to collect. The tail was sitting near an empty recycling bin and a turned up trash can. Evidently someone had just chucked a presumably broken violin and the trash men had left behind the tail. I was quite thrilled with this fortunate piece of luck, scooped it up and took it home and installed it on my fiddle. Works like a charm. So I guess I should warn you that you'll be cursed with my really crappy fiddle playing on this years Project B-Day. ;) Later when I thought about this fortunate event I cursed myself for not thinking "Gee I could sure use a winning lotto ticket right now." Ta Dah!!!! I got my contributions to the second Project B-Day compilation finished this weekend. Man what a relief it is to have that overwith. Last year I was probably the first person to finish their contribution. This year between a combination of travel, illness, and a heavy duty workload (not to mention looking after the wee baby) I was worried that I might not be able to make it in time. But I cleared my schedule for this past long weekend and told everybody that I could not be distrubed for anything as I would be working on my contributions to Project B-Day ][. And wouldn't you know it. I got the entire thing done in a single afternoon and evening leaving the rest of my long weekend free for my enjoyment. I've sent my tape off today via airmail to Miles (P.S. could you please drop me an E-mail when you get the tape so that I know it got there safely). It should hopefully get there before the 15th so the Birthday Greeting will be included too. I haven't sent any money yet as I have some questions... Who do we send the return postage to? Keith or Miles? And how much should that be? Also how much extra is it to get a CD copy of this year's project? And who do we send that to, Keith or Miles? It feels so good to get that over with. Now I don't have a deadline looming over my head anymore and can head off to Europe with a clear conscience. (P.S. Thanks Beth for the Vienna travel tips). So if you haven't got your tracks recorded yet you'd better boogie! Not much time left at all. Yepper pretty much every classic video game collector is familiar with Ebay. You really have to be careful buying there if you don't know a lot about the stuff you're buying when it comes to collectables. We've seen a lot of newbie collectors get seriously screwed buying a 2600 "Pac-Man" or "E.T." cart for $20 because the seller listed it as "Rare" when infact those carts are as common as dirt. You also have to be careful when buying "collector's guides" as there are a lot of people who are just selling FAQs they downloaded off the net. I got dicked around by a guy who won a bundle of Famicom disks from one of my auctions. He strung me along and then backed out. He'd also done the same thing to several other people all at the same time. Some people will register under several accounts and then give themselves a high rating by leaving themselves lots of positive feedback.
