[Paul Baily ] Re: Alloy: Attention Tributaries and others [Paul Baily Subject: Alloy: It's only a name! Hi all, Uh, what the hell is so bad about "The Flat Cake"!? I think it's brilliant, funny, continues on the precedent of substituting one key word of a title with the word cake. It's supposed to be /humorous/ for crissakes! Something this list has always been good for is it's sense of humour and not taking itself too seriously. Do you think Thomas is going to read that title and think 'uh-oh they're all going to be a semitone down'? No, he's likely going to have a good chuckle at it! This is supposed to simply be a well-meant, fun gift to someone we respect and admire, not a humble offering to a God. It's unfair to place that kind of expectation on yourselves or on Thomas. Don't get me wrong, I know many of you are putting in a phenomenal effort to get your works just so, and that's great, but have a sense of fun about it too eh? Having the word 'Flat' in the title isn't going to discredit anyone or diminish the value of their efforts. Where do you think May The Cube Be With You, The Key To Her Ferrari, Hyperactive!, and Aliens Ate My Buick came from? Sure, Thomas is gifted, sincere, and has a serious side, but he also has a wickedly fun-loving side; why not show him you do too? Having never seen the "Egghead" parody before.. I am still laughing about it.. that was great! I only wish my tears were only of joy.. But I had the unfortunate experience of having the CD changer in my car stolen a couple of weeks ago. And of course, inside it were two of my favorite CDs.. Aliens Ate My Buick and Astronauts & Heretics.. Not to mention the two Seal CDs.. a Bob Marley Greatest Hits.. Babyface.. Take 6 and a compilation by David Byrne of weird music found around the world. So.. now I have to not only drive in wonderful LA traffic without the benefit of music (other than that which emits from my own brain) but I have to try and find another copy of AAMB.. which ain't easy! I remember all the Alloy postings regarding locating it.. so maybe I can get another quickly. At least I have cassette tapes I dubbed of both collections.. so I could listen to them in my car before I got the CD player. Now I have to drag them out of storage and dust them off.. .but at least I can get through the dry spell without withdrawal pains. Okay.. I'll stop whining now.. and let everyone get on to more interesting tales. Ciao for now..
