Mine is 'dsalexa' which many read as 'dyslexia'. I preferred my last ID which was 'dalexander', a little long but I had no problem spelling it as I didn't have to tell my fingers to stop before I was done. By the way, I hope you caught my message; I can't get a decent scan of my Flat Earth LP jacket. But if you can get access to a scanner, I'll loan you the album. ___________ JAMac (Dennis S. Thanks for the album loner offer. Perhaps it could be done at Kinkos or somewhere like that. ..and the interview went well I think, Erin is submitting me for a position with USWest. If that happens, I guess USWest will be the official employer of the Colorado Alloy Club. (Erik, who do you work for, and are you interested in working for US WEST? I could refer you to a recruiter.....) By the way, on the subjects of ID's - on my previous job I was simply KAS. - -Keith A. I can't think of anyone more suited to the job. I had a sneaking suspicion something was going on with Paul being so quiet of late. You've done a tremendous job, Paul. I, like Slarvi, have been around since the beginning (albeit largly as a lurker) and as such feel compelled to quote a famous person that once said: "Paul, you HAVE done a first class job, particularly on the rare occasions when someone has taken umbrage at another subscriber's postings, and I too wish you all the best in the new job." (Slarvi 98) Just you make sure you don't disappear completely, young Paul, or I'll have to send the boys around. Besides you're the only other Aussie on the list (I think). AND Happy belated birthday to Charles !!! John (john@police.tas.gov.au) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Jul 1998 23:30:30 -0400 From: "Beth Meyer" Subject: Alloy: Beth catches up a bit Hi, folks; Well, I've been a bit quiet lately due to the most amazing number of big things going on here (getting Mark settled in at the new location and new job, selling a house, buying a house, etc.). Life is definitely keeping me hopping! But I had to say a few things: I definitely wanted to offer virtual bouquets of roses to Paul, for working so hard to help make Alloy the unique place that it is, and to Robin, who has generously offered to take up the mantle, with our full confidence and gratitude. I find myself at a loss for words (for once!) to describe the importance of Paul's role in shaping this group into the caring community that it is. And I certainly expect nothing but more wonderfulness from his successor (yay, Robin)! Actually, Alloy really does seem to be fairly unique among Internet communities. I was recently reading Stephen Carter's recent book on "Civility," and at one point, he argues that Internet communities tend to be uncivil places by nature. Apparently, there is a tendency for people to make up fictional personae for themselves just for the fun of it (robbing others of any ability to count on anything genuine) and to resort quickly to very hurtful and damaging words, also just for the fun of it. I was struck by how different Alloy is from that description. I feel privileged to be surrounded by genuine people who genuinely care about each other. Anyway, a belated happy birthday to Charles - hey, human memory being what it is, you may want to send out the next notice a day ahead of time, rather than a month :-) If I can find some that's healthy enough, I'll have some stale cake in your honor! Oh, and Keith and Dennis - I have a scanner set up now (it was unavailable until recently) if you need it. And good luck with the job, Keith!
