Me, I've bucked the trend a bit by buying a Vetta Comfort Flex, non-gel, and I've done 200km in three days this weekend sans problème. I have been thinking about upgrading to a Vetta Gel Flex, but that's low on the list of priorities. The Brookes is a classic, even available freely in France. The problem with it is that you have to treat it regularly with saddle soap (bit like a horse one), even before you use it, and it can be unkind to lycra clothing. However, once shaped to your bum, (fanny) it is the Rolls-Royce of saddles, with huge springs which absorb any shock. And it lasts for ever. It has even got eyelets underneath so you can hang an old-fashioned saddle bag, something I swear by. Wherever I go I always take a tool kit (spanners, Allen keys, screwdriver, puncture kit, tyre levers etc) - I see no end of posers on flashy mega lightweight steeds by the side of the road pushing it because they haven't got a puncture kit, or can't mend a slipping rear mech. There is always a place for old-timers like me !! MTCBWY and your Hetchings / Bates / BAR / Carlton / Jack Taylor. Our dear Mr. Baily shares his computer expertise with the those lucky folks Down Under through his column. A shame that the rest of us miss out... And as for where I have purchased some of my Dolby paraphernalia (I've been firmly encouraged by Stephen to itemize my vast list), a place called Vinyl Vendors supplied us recently with a few things. I know they still have some posters and if you'd like info on them, email me privately. I have some hesitation about recommending them since they were fairly unresponsive when the order took months to arrive (they promise delivery in 2 weeks). I got the bottle of Hot Sauce from a place called The Rock Shop in L.A. (Dabb, can you tell us if this place still exists?) whose ad I saw in Goldmine Magazine. I strongly advise picking up that publication because over the years I have obtained quite a bit of stuff through personal and business ads. Other things I have just picked up here and there, hitting record stores in out of the way places in the US and overseas. I was indeed fortunate to become a devoted fan very early on so I was able to snag things while they were still readily available. I am unhappy that those of you who were quite young during the early 80s are now unable to obtain such things. But trying unconventional things might help - I certainly got some treasured things by checking into resources which on the surface sounded like they wouldn't be promising. Good luck to you, Warren, and let me know if I can be of any more assistance! I agree entirely with this view (and being 39 can relate to it). The character is relating his hum-drum/stuck-in-a-rut existence. I think at about this age you start to question where you are going - too old to start a new life but too young to continue with the old one.
