I just couldn't resist forwarding this as it gave me a little chuckle. Considering the message came from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, I'm sure there isn't a snowball's chance in hell that the mother is the lovely Lost Toy People musician. I also recently got a message from Ms. Hodges (departmental secretary in Biochem in case you're even the slightest bit curious) with the subject "Ferrari GTO" which caused me to do a double take. Thanks to Alloy for informing me that there has been voilent storms in the US... glad to hear that all are ok, no-one injured. French TV hardly mentioned it, but we did get to know that Julien Clerc is undergoing a concert tour of this balanced-news-reporting-country of ours; he spent fifteen-odd minutes of the 8 o'clock news talking about it and his shite music in general. Honestly, the news here is more like a variety show. Anyway, skiing was hard work this weekend; much snow, not much visibility and most of the pistes shut. Wa avoided the avalanches, too. Loads of deaths on the autoroutes heading back home; we saw a particularly nasty one on the Autoroute Blanche near Genève. Bretagne's rail network is paralyzed by protesting farmers who have lobbed tons of cabbages on the railway lines, buggering up turnouts, overhead cables & level crossings. Have they never thought of setting themselves on fire in protest, instead ? MTCBWY and your choux-fleurs oo-oo-oo. In a message dated 4/14/98 1:24:33 AM Eastern Daylight Time, DAbbitt32@aol.com writes (about Men at Work): << The show - simply awesome. Colin Hay and the boys tore the joint down and then re-raised the roof by playing for nearly three hours nonstop, almost every song off their first two albums and some new material as well. Holy cow, it was amazing. I only wish it had been recorded for posterity's sake, as it was a truly memorable performance, highlighted with lots of crowd interplay and of course, Colin Hay's trademark lectures between songs. He took the stage (after a ten year absence) by saying, "That's one f*cking long coffee break, isn't it?" I'm somewhat glad it was a one-night-only deal, because it was all the more special to have been there. >> How strange, Dave and I were just wondering what those guys were up to!! It's nice to hear they gave such an excellent concert. Are you certain it was a one-night-only deal, or might they record together again? I hope!! They were a really good band :) << THOMAS, CAN YOU HEAR ME?!?!? :) >> I'd also love to hear Thomas perform, but I have this *weird feeling* that he might be busy at the moment with some other project (just a hunch... ) Yes, I agree, it would be wonderful to hear him perform live. I can effectively compare my admiration of Thomas' talents to those of a little kid (representing me) who might live down the street from a guy who owns a Strad & can play it beautifully (representing Thomas & his fantastic voice)... The man carries the violin everywhere he goes but doesn't necessarily play it, and the little kid dreams of one day being around on the day if and when the nice man with the Strad feels like playing for her :) A while back I came up with this brilliant idea, if Thomas wants to perform but can't go through all the hassle of a public appearance. He can call me collect, or at work where I have an 800 number, and do a song for me. I'll applaud (once I stop hyperventilating & fainting, and they revive me), and then I'll send him a check. It could work! Robin :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Apr 1998 19:10:34 EDT From: RThurF Subject: Alloy: Thomas speaking in 'Digital Living Room', June 21-24! I just got this news forwarded to me... another thing I can't quite go to because I'm on the wrong side of the continent for it. Wrote my final exam last week, think I did pretty good on it. Had my oral a week before and I know I aced it. We had to do a skit (in Japanese) where we ask and answer our partner several questions one of which was manditory. "Hyakuman doru attara, doushimasu ka." (What would you do if you had a million dollars.) Because of that I haven't been able to get the Bare Naked Ladies' song "If I Had A Million Dollars" out of my head. Only now I'm singing it in japanese. Hyakkuman doru attara If I had a million dollars Hyakkuman doru attara If I had a million dollars Ookii mekka o katte I would buy a giant mecha (robot) Watashi no teki oshitsubusu yo. And crush my enemies. Incidently, that was the answer I gave in my oral for what I would do with a million dollars. My teacher burst out laughing. Now I'm back online. I'll also have time to finish up programming all these old Atari 2600 games I want to write. Anyways, somebody sent me an E-mail asking if I had a copy of the .GIF of the AAMBC J-Card. Yes I do, let me know who you were and I'll F-mail it to you.
