Ah, I was just waiting for the right moment to tease you about Water Rats! Recently on the Entertainment Channel (I'm not a TV addict, I swear!) there was a show called Sex on the Great Barrier Reef. Along with shots of King's Cross, Miss Nude Australia, and topless women on the beach, they had interviews with some of the stars from Water Rats. And what was the > TMDR connection to the song again? The song is from the soundtrack of what seems to be a perfect "Ladies of the '80s" flick (what do you say, shall we get together once it becomes a rental? I'll supply the popcorn), The Wedding Singer. The TMDR connection is that he started his career by playing keyboards with Bruce Woolley and the Camera Club whose frontman co-wrote the song with Trevor Horn and Geoff (?) Downes of the Buggles. And while I've got the attention of those aficionados of that era, did any of you ever see the video for a song called Romanticide by Combo Audio back in those days? They were my favorite local band in Champaign-Urbana (I can't even count the number of times I saw them) and I was surprised to read in some magazine at the time that their video was getting airplay. They have a couple of tenuous Dolby connections - once when I heard them play, the opening band did a ridiculous cover of Science and on one of the Living in Oblivion CD compilations, one can find both Romanticide and Science (I *said* they were tenuous!). > Thanks for the compliment ! You have no idea how upset I am to hear this! Unfortunately, this is an all-to-common problem. Of course, her committee hadn't been chosen yet when she took the exam so it was ridiculous. I truly hope that they manage to work something out for you so your suffering isn't prolonged! Of course, I don't remember ever having known the date to begin with, so either I didn't forget it or I forgot it particularly thoroughly. Well, actually, you may have heard New Toy without realizing that it was a Thomas Dolby song. Lene Lovich was the one who actually sang it. I remember hearing it on the college radio in, oh, 1982 or so. That was actually before I knew who Thomas Dolby was. (I know, I don't LOOK older than dirt -- hide it pretty well, I guess...) The chorus goes, "I want a new toy to keep my mind expanding I want a new toy but nothing too demanding" (etc., etc.) I actually have Puppet Theatre, but on vinyl, of course. It was on the "Blinded by Science" EP. I'm sure that a look at Laszlo's discography would turn up the other songs on it. Somehow that doesn't seem very helpful, though...
