I think it was Steely Dan, but I am not sure. Does any one know what the cover was or if it was ever available? If you have it, and it's been deleted, could you make me a copy (I don't know the legality of this issue-if something's been deleted and is no longer available is it still piracy if you copy it for personal use?) Falco covered Steely Dan's "Do It Again" ("You go back, Jack, and do it again...") in '88; the track appeared on the Wiener Blut album and was issued as a single, at least in the US. - -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo) ::: Internet Music Wantlists: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo/Wantlists ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Feb 1998 18:34:58 EST From: RThurF@aol.com Subject: Alloy: Thomas at the Paradise Dave wore his Alloy shirt to work today. However, I've been scouring the used CD stores for some time looking for a used copy of "TGAOW." Why? Because I want to be certain that the next copy of this that I buy has the long mix of "SBMWS." If I buy a copy in a regular store, and it's the same as the one I have, then I'm out of luck. But in the used CD stores, you can listen to something before you buy it. Having said that, I have NEVER seen a used copy of this CD, and the store owners tell me that when they do have it, it sells almost immediately. Actually, this feeds into something I've been wondering for some time, but keep forgetting to bring up here. In the videos for 'Radio Silence' and 'Airhead', Thomas appears to do standing backflips...onto and off of a stool in the latter case. What I've always wanted to know is whether this is unenhanced Dolby (ie: some athletic stunt he picked up during his travels), or some sort of harness rig. Given Dave's friend's statements, it sounds like the former. Does anyone else have a clue in this issue? :) Robyn @ Robyn Moore @ http://www.alveus.com/kbrm/robyn.html @ You knew the job was dangerous when you took it. - S.C. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Feb 1998 11:26:28 From: leacy@it-excelsior.britax.co.uk (Neil Leacy) Subject: Re: Alloy: Alloy Shirts!!! Heh, yep there's more than a little acrobatic talent in Our Founder-- just check out the "Europa" video (and maybe the "Airhead" video too.) There's a cool still from "Europa" on the inner sleeve of The Golden Age of Wireless, where TMDR appears suspended against a cloudy sky. Done with trampolines, not smoke & mirrors & wires. :) He definitely did a backflip on stage at the Warfield in 1984. Saw it with me own eyes, I did! ("a dictionary of the senses"... she does the kewlest, weeeirdest books on english grammar and punctuation and the like) ..."He was awakened at the creak of dawn by a flannel flapping sound. Although it had no knees to speak of, a long-sleeved nightgown with rows of roses climbing blue and white lattices knelt in the doorway waving its lace-cuffed arms and swaying from side to side to a rhythm he couldn't quite put his finger on, but which smacked of Africa... "As he soon discovered, the flannel nightgown was in fact a gospel singer, who regaled him with her sabbath repertoire until the first rays of daylight broke in on the shadows of that full-bodied voice, which disappeared into a laundry chute. This gave the silk dressing gown something to think about after he'd slammed the door on his breakfast of solitude and caught the tramway of travail. What sweet emotions those folds of flannel had evoked! No matter that the hands that might have been clapping were now rubbing the contralto over the washboard as its mouth filled up with soap and the hallelujahs caused large bubbles to burst in the sun. The silk dressing gown, which had never been immersed in such stuff in its life, nor submitted to an abrasive touch on its fine and many colored threads, made sure the coast was clear before stepping into the hallway and entereing a new life before the mirror of gyrations and fervor theretofore in its murkiest dreams unspun." (And yes, she always writes like that) So, anyone want to go try to pick up a pair of silk pyjamas with me? If ya know what I mean... ;) -- E(lipse ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Feb 1998 00:05:37 -0500 From: "Mary A. Brown" Subject: Alloy: call fabio!
