This year's "Project B-Day" will be the biggest, best Project B-Day in History! In addition to submitting a Thomas Dolby cover, each musical contributor can submit an original composition as well. And everyone can submit a birthday greeting. This year all submissions should be finished and sent to Ian Gifford no later than the 1st of September, so you've got lots of time, but please don't leave things to the last moment. I bet this is how that whole Richard Gere/hamster felching thing got started. Denying it just makes it seem more true. In years to come, people won't say "You know, Thomas Dolby, the guy who did 'She Blinded Me With Science'," they'll say, "You know, Thomas Dolby, the guy who refused to do the Late Show because he was too chicken..." Or something like that. (sorry Thomas). Lem ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Jan 1998 19:48:32 EST From: RThurF Subject: Alloy: Bond Wishes The music for the new James Bond flick - which we saw last Thursday - was very nicely done, but all throughout, I found myself wondering what Thomas would have done if HE had handled the scoring instead. (is this "cheating"?) I must re-assert my strong belief that Dolby and Bond were made for each other. Tragically, it turns out I have way less of an influence in Hollywood than I had hoped, so the only thing left for me to do is whine. Ok, I just had to do it: Dolby, Thomas was in Howard the Duck (1986) with Kiley, Richard Kiley, Richard was in Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977) with Gere, Richard Keith Stansell Denver, CO __________________________________________________ http://www.concentric.net/~kasman ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Jan 1998 19:12:21 -0700 From: Keith Stansell Subject: Alloy: Six Degrees of Thomas Dolby At 09:59 a.m. 16/1/98 -0800, Thomas wrote: >Firstly, I have never in my life been anywhere near David Letterman or his >show. If my theory is correct, Thomas indeed was - or will be - on Letterman, in that tight red suit just as he "jokingly" described (denial and ridicule have long been regarded as standard policy for governmental cover-ups of this ilk, as EVERYONE knows) Anyway, I'm in the odd position of being able to provide advice to Thomas in case he does wind up on Letterman, since a friend of mine was a guest musician on it last year. DON'T get stuck alone in the green room with that weird, short announcer guy, and bring your own snacks if you're hungry - the food was a bit wilted. The friend I refer to was a guitarist for singer Chris Whitley's band; he had to wait almost a whole year to get paid for that particular gig (that's show biz) Robin Robin ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V3 #17 **************************
