Much (unwelcome) excitement. I got halfway home the other night on my motorcycle and the throttle cable snapped. I had to call the AA from a dodgy street corner in Hackney. It was about 9.30pm. The police arrived about 2.5 minutes later wanting to know why I was hanging around looking suspicious. Apparently my bike had picked the most notorious drug-dealing and pimping corner in East London to conk out. Fortunately they believed my excuse - but laughed and got back in their car when I asked if they'd give me a tow home. The wonderful AA arrived an hour and a half later by which time I was about three quarters of the way through to catching pneumonia, had been offered entertaining substances about seven times, and been questioned by a second set of cops. But I guess I should be grateful that the tow truck got me out of there before the pubs closed - when I'm sure the night shift would have taken over in earnest. Shame they weren't as prompt as the cops, though. Other than that, I've been having fun trying to compile an original tune for the birthday tape, based on my almost non-existent knowledge of music. I got some self-teach keyboard books for Chrimble and have been working steadily through them. You know how a song will sometimes stick in your head and refuse to go away, driving you nuts? I've discovered that this phenomenon is ten times worse with melodies you've knocked up yourself. Has anyone else out there noticed this? I havn't seen any of that, although I enjoyed the american episodes I did see way back when it first came out. --Dave ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Jan 1998 21:29:04 -0700 From: dalexander@juno.com (Dennis S. I'm not trying to dissapoint you, but the skill of playing well is an art that takes much practice. But if you want something that is truly worth the strugle and self-discipline, then you are on the right road. After a while, you will realize just how crappy you play. Don't give up! I'ts worth it (speaking from experience). "Never Give Up! Never Give Up! Never Give Up!" - Winston Churchill (Graduation speech, I believe in it's entirety. This would apply to life in general as well.) > You know how a song will sometimes stick in your >head and refuse to go away, driving you nuts? I've discovered that this >phenomenon is ten times worse with melodies you've knocked up yourself. Has >anyone else out there noticed this? Oh yeah! Many a' time! I've learned to listen to the tune in different emotions, positions, aspects, with different sounds and rhythms etc until I found the one that was perfect, then commited it. Those are usually my best works! Slarv, as far as it goes for me, I've got a 6-month contract job that pays very nicely, working for a boss who (as well as her boss) thinks that I am a dream-come-true. I love it! I don't suffer from post-holiday blues or whatever they are as I do not believe it is good to participate in something that leaves with a bad ending, especially when society deems it a requirement! I follow my own drum (within reason) and am quite happy! I've started to get serious about my own personal business and am loving that as well (email me! especially if you need money! especially if you want better health! I'm serious!) I got my tapes for the Great Tape Exchange in the mail so you should be receiving them any day. It only cost me $13 for the postage on all eleven tapes! I expect some tapes back now! (Am I the first again? and again?) I've moved back home to my home city of Denver (I don't care if the Broncos make the SuperBowl or not, and why should I?) I've learned to believe only in myself. Sorry if I sound too positive, but it's the truth! It's the truth. JAMac - (Dennis S.
