I've just spent a lovely day out on a townhouse balcony overlooking the Brisbane river and CBD eating and sipping some principle compromising stuff with a couple of good friends - I thought of people dear to me: my best friend in Sydney, other good friends in Brisbane, California, NY, and of course your good selves. I'd like to thank you for helping make Alloy what it is and for staying with us through thick and thin. I'd also like to wish you the merriest of Christmases, and hope 1998 holds the realisation of your hopes and dreams. All I ask is two things: 1. Take care of yourself and those around you over the holidays. Appreciate and relish. 2. As well as thinking of loved ones, spare a thought for the people you will likely never meet, who're doing it tough this Christmas: people who may not have enough to eat, and the aid workers fighting fickle politics for their cause. People who may live in a country where they cannot express their views for fear of disappearing. People living under duress for the sake of keeping a family together. The submarine crew under orders to protect a line on a map that few know about or care. Their 'hostile' counterparts who are only trying to do the same: ensure a safe and secure existence for their families. The men & women of the emergency services trying frantically to save a life. The stranger on the street who stops to ask someone in pain 'do you need a hand?'. There is cruelty in this world, but also kindness: once in a while we as a species shake our heads in disbelief at our shortsightedness and just occasionally, we get the balance right. There is a spirit here that won't be broken. Merry Christmas! Paul. P.S. Oh, one last thing: party on dudes! :-) ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V2 #296 ***************************
