Hey y'all, Want to see what your schmicko Alloy shirt will look like? Check it out at: Don't forget to confirm your order with Stephen! There's a copy of the order form on the page. Also, I've added a couple of new faces to the scrapbook. Dennis Alexander (a.k.a. JAMac), and Tim Dunn (a.k.a. the_copse) including the threatened partial nude shot! Okay, so it didn't do it for me, but then I'm not that way inclined. YMMV. :-) cheers, Paul. ________________________________________________________________________ Paul Baily paulb@thehub.com.au JustSomeGuy http://www.thehub.com.au/~paulb Brisbane tel: +61-7-3857-8048/+61-411-875-009 Australia When your turn comes round and the light goes on. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Nov 1997 11:14:56 -0500 From: Tim Dunn <113203.2623@compuserve.com> Subject: Re: Alloy: OOh, kind words....... Well, that's kind, but I haven't got a band, and haven't had for ages. I used to gig around York, but it never really worked out. The problem was that I had a lead guitarist who could do nothing but ROCK, and the jazzie= st funkiest rhythm section ever born. And to make things worse I was rather inept at the guitar, having only bought one on impulse two months earlier= =2E We were a complete Spinal Tap, and eventually we realised that it wouldn'= t work and split up. And I didn't have time to organise the band to do the album. I'm really too much of an artistic megalomaniac to work in bands I= think. Basically the song has to come first, which means the whole style,= and above all the arrangement, which as you can tell from ZAL I am very fussy about. = I think it would be cool to get an Alloy band together, with a Radiohead-style triple guitar attack of me, Stephen T, and Eric H, with Lissu up front, Thomas on keyboards, Lee doing his programming stuff, and= CRACKERS of course. Actually we'd also have a full rhythm section as I believe Ian can play both bass and drums, as can I so we could swap over mid-gig. Would that be cool or what. When I win =A325M on the lottery we = can all quit our jobs and go out on the road touring AAMBC. We sat in the fifth row center balcony - the absolute highest position in the theater looking down on the stage. Pre-show, the entire stage stood empty save for one keyboard, two microphones, a little electronic box of some sort, a long electronic box, some foot pedals, her violin, her guitar, and a glass of water, all front & center on the stage. Dave and I had assumed she would have other musicians with her, so we were in suspense about what would happen in the show. Laurie walked out (tiny, wearing a black suit), took her place behind the keyboard, and picked up her violin. She then commenced to completely fill that theater with her presence in mere seconds; the atmosphere she created could actually be felt against the skin. Jeff, did you ever manage to get tickets? If you were there, I was the one who laughed REALLY LOUDLY in that microsecond of silence after Laurie said: "Would you like another pop tart?" I love this woman. Everyone check your newspapers and see if she's coming to your town, you shouldn't miss her if you don't have to.
