Will advise on further developments shortly, I hope. Ciao! /\/\iles ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Aug 1997 10:50:22 -0400 From: Beth Meyer Subject: Alloy: Another Alloy-ite returns from the (former) Eastern Bloc Hi, folks; Well, I'm back, safe and sound but exhausted, from the trip to Slovenia. Being back from a trip would normally be far too trivial to mention, but when the trip involved hours of rock climbing at the top of Triglav -- a nearly 9,000-foot mountain -- you feel especially grateful to have not returned in a body bag. (Particularly when you are a bookish, not-very-athletic, accident-prone sort like myself.) This was not quite what I expected when my hosts promised a nice hike that required no special equipment... I thought you might also want to know that I did check and read Alloy e-mail messages while at the university in Maribor. I wanted to send you folks an e-mail "postcard" from there, but never had the time. The process of sending messages was terribly slow and frustrating, between the really slow response times over the Internet, a fairly primitive UNIX e-mail editor, and the fact that Slovenian keyboards have the 'z' where the 'y' is on US keyboards. So only the most urgent stuff got sent, with many under-the-breath curses. (And I can relate a little to Slarv's dilemma!) To summarize my responses to the major threads from the past two weeks: * Yes, I'm still interested in a T-shirt. It sounds to me like we are still moving in the right direction there. Thanks for the effort /\/\iles (and many good wishes to you and Europa). * For the title of the birthday tape -- I like "Aliens Ate My Birthday Cake", and also "Amateurs and Heretics" (but not "Amateurs and Hedonists", it seems too far removed from the original title). * Thanks, Kevin and Frank, for the pointers to the web sites! (And welcome, Kevin -- hope to hear more from you!) One more thing: I've never been to San Francisco, but will be bumming around there on Labor Day. If any San Franciscans on the list have suggestions for something to do, or would like to see my mountain pictures (wink), feel free to send a note to me privately at my address below. I have one problem. I cannot find the page with the image (I lost the email with the URL of the proposed t-shirt page). I apologize for taking so long to answer, but I must have missed the email. There has been so much traffic on here occasionally I may delete messages without reading them. - -Russell Milliner "Look into my eyes...I said look into my eyes!" -Gothic Stephen M.
