But I've heard Barbara's design described so much lately (as the producers of this t-shirt have been working out small details) that now I feel like I HAVE seen it. I'll be proud to wear it and it will make me very very happy! Can Binghamton NY be tossed Well, I'm not from Boston, but I live there now (when I'm not living in a suitcase). I'd like to see Boston on the shirt... - -jeff ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 03 Aug 1997 23:11:37 -0400 From: Beth Meyer Subject: Re: Alloy: tshirts Hi, /\/\iles (gee, that takes more coordination than I would have thought...); Thanks for the note. As you might imagine, I would certainly support using the alternate photo, if it turns out to be the only way to avoid hideously grainy images on the shirt. And I just realized today that it is rather silly of me to complain about our fearless leader's hair in the photo, when I am in fact this very day wearing my Weird Al Yankovic "Bad Hair Tour" T-shirt, which features four guys with spectacularly bad hairdos on the front. I guess I just never thought of Thomas Dolby as being a "bad hair" sort of musician, whatever that means... Anyway, many warm (if slightly delayed) greetings to you and Europa. I don't know if my trip to the former Yugoslavia will be anywhere near so interesting as Melissa's to the former Soviet Union, so I would feel a little funny sending a travelogue -- but I *might* be able to check my e-mail from there, so I could at least say hi to everyone in Slovenian! The official purpose of the trip is to give an invited talk at a couple of universities -- yawn -- but the real reason is for us to visit with our good friends Matjaz and Metka, and to climb Triglav! This is the highest mountain in Slovenia, at over 9,000 feet, and the national symbol. The Slovenians are a nation of avid hikers, so there are actually walking trails to the top that don't require any special equipment. Still, it's pretty wild that I'm climbing in the Alps, when I once hurt myself in the attempt to crush an aluminum can... ;-) Whoops, running off at the fingers again. Anyway, thanks for all the hard work, and it sounds like everything is taking shape! If so, my apologies to the group for cluttering up your in-boxes with weird and irrelevant stuff, and particularly to the intended recipient(s) if I caused any unnecessary embarassment. (Lord knows my own face is pretty red about now, particularly after having mentioned the Aluminum Can Incident -- ouch.) I think I'll just go back to being quiet for a while... Hi, Robin, and everyone else. I think, to keep the list within a reasonable length, it would probably be good to limit it to one city per Alloy-ite (but that's just my take on thangs.) I would think it would be more appropriate for use the city from which you access Alloy, if the shirt is to be an Alloy one. (Give TMDR a good idea where his scattered tribe are located...) The list as of right now (and it's just in alphabetical order, and has USA designations in anticipation of entries from Suomi-folk and those from that Green and Pleasant Land) is: Atlanta, Georgia, USA Bethesda, Maryland, USA Boston, Massachusetts, USA Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Garland, Texas, USA Nashville, Tennessee, USA Santa Rosa, California, USA Cheers, - - Melissa Melissa R. Well, Our Fearless Leader was mentioned very briefly in a Washington Post article today (well, already yesterday - Sunday) about Pop Up Videos on VH1. There is a grainy still from "Science" and the pop up statistic on how many animals are blinded by scientists every year. The very strange thing about this is that, while I was reading the article, I heard a bite from "Science" on tv (commercial for a "Hits of the '80's" CD set.) I just about got whiplash turning toward the set. Heh. Cheers, all. - - Melissa, who should be sleeping right now... Melissa R.
