FWIW though, I'd gladly go for a product that was as easy to use for the Alloids (Tappoids!?) but was more difficult/troublesome on the admin side if it meant that everyone could use it for free because I think the most vital thing about the Tap Room is (I /refuse/ to use the past tense here!) that anyone at all could put their 2 cents worth in. I started this incarnation of the list with the same reasoning. It's the people that live here (and in Tap) that make it well worth doing. stay well, Paul. P.S. Thanks for your call today Europa, 'twas good to hear you're still out there somewhere. :-) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 May 97 00:38:46 +1000 From: Paul Baily Subject: Re: Alloy: t-shirts In last week's episode, we heard Charles E. That's a real goodie: it would instantly strike a chord with a Dolby fan but yet it might also make the 'unenlightened' stop and think a bit. Paul. P.S. Of course if I were in to doing blatant plugs I'd suggest something like "Alloy. Make it your universe." but I'm not so I won't. :-) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 May 1997 11:35:44 -0700 (PDT) From: Elaine Linstruth Subject: Re: Alloy: t-shirts > Paul. > P.S. (I'm using 'procedures' for lack of a better word). I was listening to Quantum Mechanic and it got me wondering. Does he hear these things in his head, then set out to duplicate it -- or does he get an idea and run with it, pleasantly surprised as he goes along. I imagine it's possible to be giddy like a kid with "hey! this sounds cool.. what if I try *this*" (like some kid with a chemistry set that squeals with delight at making green slime ooze all over). Or am I mistaken about artists, that neither of these scenarios is accurate? Or some combination? Not being an artist, I'm curious. I know some of you are! - -- Elaine Linstruth Palmdale, CA (USA) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 May 1997 11:49:01 -0700 (PDT) From: Elaine Linstruth Subject: Alloy: Another Question Since seeing the little factoid snippets during the Blinded video, I've been wondering about the "singer and Dolby protege" who they said died "10 years later." Does anybody know who he is and whether or not he is the subject of any lyrics? Since the video was made in 1982 it might coincide. - -- Elaine Linstruth Palmdale, CA (USA) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 May 1997 14:25:43 -0700 (PDT) From: Elaine Linstruth Subject: Alloy: Dolby Framed I'm interested in knowing what "frames" Alloyeds' TMDR collections. If you keep your music collection in alphabetical order, what are the discs (or albums) directly left and right of our fearless leader? My Dolby discs are framed by the Divinyls and Duran Duran. (If it weren't for my 80's disc-buying kick, it would be Devo and the Eagles). I wonder if this says anything about me. Thats' bizarre; mine are framed by Talk Talk and Tin Machine! ;-) Seriously, they're between Depeche Mode and Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Both are related, one being an electro-pop contemporary, and the other (of Keith Emerson) an influence (well, TMDR has brought him up in many an interview). - --Omega - ------------------------------------------------------- omega@torfree.net Head of Dealer's Room -- ANIME NORTH Toronto's FIRST anime convention -- Sat. If >you keep your music collection in alphabetical order, what are the discs >(or albums) directly left and right of our fearless leader? Well usually it varies because I deliberately keep my CD collection in chaotic order (!?) on a 5 foot high rack. That way I'm forced to browse through and may find something different for an 'impulse play'. The last week though I have a definite answer: none. They stand alone! With the recent move, all my CDs are in a box somewhere in my house (hopefully!), except the Dolby CDs and the 5 I had in the player just before the move (B-Sides & Lost Grooves/Psych Furs; Ultra/Depeche Mode; /Deep Forest; Full Circle/Icehouse; Violator/Depeche Mode.) cheers, Paul. ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V2 #89 **************************
