Cloudburst at Shingle Street would be a good candidate, musically. Crank up things this time around and put a different twist on the melody. Lyrically, maybe Screen Kiss, or Blinded by Science. >and a trickier one: > >Which songs do you think Thomas would like to revisit or tackle in a new >way? Quite tricky indeed. Eastern Bloc obviously isn't the first one he's revisited - witness Radio Silence, unless I'm sadly mistaken. I don't know the man well enough to guess accurately, but going on his recent trends, I'd say he might want to do something to Budapest by Blimp. Probably both! :) The story is that he was born on a submarine, but wasn't that just an old folk tale that was passed on from generation to generation? ;-) Then there's the co-producer of the track, Tim Friese-Green who would create great animal noises for Talk Talk (another great band) a year later. Perhaps he was still perfecting his elephant noises? > Which songs do you think Thomas would like to revisit or tackle in a new > way?>> Lezzee... As mentioned elsewhere, Dolby's songs are generally self-contained stories. I think only TMDR himself knows which songs have a potential second chapter. Anyway, we've spoken of artists with whom Dolby should collaborate, re-makes/re-visits, and what else? If their was a tribute album of Dolby songs, who should be doing what tracks? :) - --Omega - -------------------------------------------------- omega@torfree.net - Proud member of #SkAS# Skuld Appreciation Society, Goddess of De-buggers! - -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Mar 1997 15:16:34 -0800 (PST) From: Elaine Linstruth Subject: Re: Alloy: Reprise (and ILYG) I thought of another collaboration I'd like to see. TMDR and the guys from Squeeze. They can write a mean self-contained-story or subtly-wry song, just like he does.. along with many others. On a tribute album, I'd like to hear their take on something off Astronauts. Not sure what. Since I never did hear the story re: the origin of ILYG, I don't know if it could ever be performed in any other style but cajun fiddle/Nawlins, but if it could -- I wonder what style TMDR would consider trying for it. Smoky lounge? Soothing synth? Sad cello and slow beat? I still wonder about that song, all the time. What is it about that song. Is it the song, or the way I think of the song. Maybe that's why I never got an answer to my question, "why was it written and was it a true story." Maybe I'm better off not knowing, so that it's my interpretation that stays with me, which I can change any time I want to imagine something different. She only asks that the recipient pay the cost of packaging and shipping the album. (she doesn't consider it a collector's item but it would be valuable for someone who had been previously deprived of it!) Her address again is mabrown@pop.uky.edu. if anyone is interested.
