I was wondering if those of you that are >Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis fans could recommend the best cd for >getting acquainted with these cats. For classic BlueNote Hancock try 'Canteloupe' (title track recently sampled to great effect by US3). For his electronic cross-over you can't beat 'Rockit' and for his newer jazz try 'Now Voyager' which came out about 6 years ago (I've got the tape at home somewhere). And as for Miles... (silent pondering about not getting to see him live) For classic Miles go for any of the CBS recordings from the 50's (look out for the recently released boxed set). For in-yer-face live work try 'Live Evil' and from his modern jazz releases it has to be 'TuTu' (my first real introduction to him). With both of them you have to choose the period as they've both produced a very wide and eclectic range of material.
