Then, with the release of Astronauts and Heretics years later, we found out with the brilliant (IMHO) Eastern Bloc. Not only did Eastern Bloc continue the Europa story, it added a new dimension to the original, combining riffs and lines from the old in a very cleverly made reprise. It added a new, confident edge, especially with the spectacular guitarwork by TMDR's neighbour at the time, Mr. Eddie Van Halen. Maybe TMDR was playing Europa so loud the guy just had to come over and say "hey man, /this/ is how you oughta play it!" :-) The combination was so unlikely, but worked so well. That's what we've come to expect from TMDR. Another example, who'd think something as grass-roots as cajun violins would work so well together with the treated piano and electric guitar in I Love You Goodbye and yet who could imagine that track without it? We've already talked about collaborations so let me try a new twist: Which songs would you like to see (or hear) revisited or reprised by TMDR in a similar way to Europa/Eastern Bloc? and a trickier one: Which songs do you think Thomas would like to revisit or tackle in a new way? stay well, Paul. __________________________________________________________________________ Paul Baily paulb@thehub.com.au Consulting SE/IT Mercenary http://www.thehub.com.au/~paulb Brisbane, Australia There is a spirit here that won't be broken ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V2 #48 **************************
