Jordan" Subject: Alloy: Happy Holidays It's Christmas Eve, and I'm the last person left in my office. The late morning light is already dimming in the sky, as a cold Christmas thunderstorm heads our way. I've got NPR on, and their broadcasting the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols live from King's College, Cambridge. The sweet choir sound is giving me goosebumps. The overhead light in my office just blew, so I'm working only by the glow of the monitor and the remaining grey ambient light. The heating in the building shut down last night, and I'm wearing little fingerless gloves as I type. All in all, I'm feeling like Bob Cratchit, waiting for Scrooge to let me leave for the day. Rather perversely, I'm enjoying the somewhat Victorian atmosphere, but I'll be happy when I can leave to pack up and return to my hometown for a few quiet days. Thanks to Paul and TMDR for the lovely holiday messages. That was very uplifting, and TMDR's comment about possibly booking himself into a smoky little club somewhere is certainly a happy thought. It's time to start hoarding frequent flyer miles and keeping fingers, eyes, and toes crossed! To all the nifty folk out in Alloy-land, a happy holiday - whichever one(s) you celebrate - and here's hoping for a fantastic 1997. Cheers, all! - - Melissa And don't forget: Star Wars gets re-released on January 31st. Take a sick day, relive your childhood, remember being passionate about something for the first time! - ------------------- Melissa R. I will be taking advantage of a long Christmas vacation to upgrade the hardware and operating system on one of the machines that supports smoe.org. This means that mail deivery to and from smoe.org will be spotty, and the system that handles mail may be down for 1 or 2 days during the upgrade (from Dec. 27 to Jan 1). So, if you send mail to the list and you don't see it come back to you right away, or if you don't see mail from the list for a few days, don't panic. Also, please don't send multiple copies of your messages. I will send out an announcement after the upgrade is complete and things have stabilized. If you have a need to contact me during the downtime, please email me at jeffw@shore.net. Jeff ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V1 #101 ***************************
