Hi y'all, [apologies up front: this is a geeky computer-related story, sorry, I'm saving hard to get a life, really I am...] One of the first things I do when I get into the office in the morning is sit down to my email with a life-giving coffee before facing the day's battles. A couple of mornings ago I nearly sprayed my coffee over my main work machine's monitor when I read this little tidbit: For those of you who are Macintosh addicts or follow Apple Computer, Inc.'s PR noise this may not be new: over the last few months Apple Computer have been (quietly) touting a new technology of theirs, codenamed: Project-X. No, it's not a haunting return of a certain B-grade (but I thought good) film staring Matthew Broderick and a bunch of top gun primates. What Project-X does is provide you with a nifto 3D interface - either in a standalone app or a browser plug-in - for accessing hierarchial information. One example used was a representation of the famous Yahoo search database. You effectively 'fly' through these structures to quickly get to where you want to go. Clicking on an object resolves the URL and activates the relevant helper app, e.g. Navigator, CyberDog, Explorer. It's a really promising concept with a lot of potential, IMHO. (Bear with me, I'm getting to the point honest!) Apple Computer recently gave this technology it's final public name: HotSauce. I kid you not. Go on, check it out: Mayhap we have some closet Dolby fans in Cupertino? ...either that or our hero has been mighty surrepticious in his marketing. :-) stay well, Paul. ________________________________________________________________________ Paul Baily paulb@powerup.com.au Consulting SE/IT gun for hire Brisbane, Australia There is a spirit here that won't be broken. ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V1 #56 **************************
