I was not a subscriber to Alloy when TD posted his letter so I did not get to read the reactions of others. If this is possible they can be sent directly to my E-mail, since this would be a repeat of info for you regulars. I would be very grateful for this opportunity. Thank you to everyone. I have been offered a comfy chair and do believe I will sit awhile and give a formal intro of myself. My first memories of TD are of "Hyperactive." I first bought the album single and then the entire album. I've been hooked ever since and have tried to get my hands on anything Dolby (music, computer game, or otherwise). I can remember walking to my piano lesson while listening to "The Flat Earth." I remember the first time I heard "Gate" and got so stuck on Armaggedon that I kept playing it over and over (and soon did the same to the entire CD). I remember taking long driving trips with my mom and the only music of mine that she would listen to was "Aliens Ate my Buick." She loves Ability to Swing and Budapest By Blimp. You are helping me to remember things I haven't thought of in years! Around 1987 it was clear to me that the radio stations were neglecting TD (at least in California) and I went on a one-woman mission to educate the listening public. Every Saturday night on Live 105 (Robin, is that station still around?) I requested "One of My Submarines" and every Saturday night they played it. But nothing else...(Sigh) I live in the U.S. and am married with no children (yet) but have five cats - - Jacob, Marley, Neezer (short for Ebenezer), Sophie, and Harry Carry (my husband named the last one). I'm refered to as the Crazy Cat Lady at work but I can't deny that I love cats (and they were all unwanted and rescued from the pound - no purebreeds here). Reading is a favorite activity of mine (my current reading is Anne Rice's "The Vampire Armand") and my dream is to become an author. Music has been a passion for me as long as I can remember. Some of my favorite artists include Peter Gabriel (especially "Passion"), Prince, the Cirque de Soleil albums, Enya, Dead Can Dance, Vangelis, just to name a few. There seems to be a great diversity of people here. From what parts of the world to people here gather from? It was the first version recorded, and appears on the first and second US releases of TGAOW. The Lena Lovich intensive rendition to me was just a drastic remix included on subsequent releases. The original RS Rocks, and is hard to come by. To me the 2nd *LL* version is the irregular version. I think I abstained from the last one (which was a couple of years ago, as I recall, so we're probably due), so I should perhaps update mine. I've been a bit quiet of late due primarily to time constraints, but that's probably just as well, since most of my posts have been WAY off-topic anyway. (I think my last significant contribution was about, um, elk bugling. Hard to see the connection there, though it IS a sound that I can easily imagine working wonderfully into a TMDR song, like the frogs and crickets in "I Love You Goodbye.") It's hard for me to believe, but I've been on the list since its inception. I think that was around '94, but I'm not sure -- I know that it was actually going even before the demise of the Tap Room. Paul would know. I've been a confirmed Dolby fan since "The Golden Age of Wireless" was released, and actually got to see him in concert for the "Aliens Ate My Buick" tour. So I can die happy :-) I'm one of the female scientists that this list seems to attract (at last count, we were up to four -- which, considering the base rate in the general population, is a good proportion!). I recently earned my Ph.D. in engineering psychology and now do design and applied research for US West in Boulder, Colorado. Having just moved out here, I share a tiny temporary apartment with my husband Mark, one cat, and a network of four computers (we're a two-geek household). I'm also about five months pregnant and starting to look pretty funny. Our big concern right now is that the new house won't be finished before the baby comes, in which case we might have to tuck in the baby on top of the scanner or something... To address Rochelle's earlier question about geographical distributions of members, we currently have a little group of four in the Denver area -- myself, Keith Stansell, Erik Habbinga (who stays quiet on the list but contributes wonderful music to the tribute tapes), and Dennis Alexander (aka JAMac, who also contributes great music and recently helped Keith find his new job!). However, both Keith and I from the Southern U.S.; I'm from Atlanta and he is from Louisiana. Current Southern residents in the group include a couple of folks in different places in Alabama (Mark, aka PROCAT1, and Turquoise), Alan in North Carolina, and Michael in Virginia. Of course, Virginia's only a stone's throw away from Bethesda, Maryland, where Melissa stays when she's not having incredible adventures in remote corners of the world :-) (Melissa's eloquent travel stories are among the major benefits of being on this list.) The northeastern U.S. contingent includes Robin and Dave in Boston and Stacey in upstate NY. Just across certain rather large lakes and a national border is crackers in Ontario. The largest group of Alloy members in one city, however, seems to be on the other side of the continent in the San Francisco area -- appropriately located near Headspace headquarters. This crowd includes Mary, aka Europa, and Stephen -- both of whom have distinguished themselves on this list in more ways than I can describe here. Brian, Phil, and Monya De are also in the Bay Area. Southern California folks include Elaine in Palmdale and Mark in L.A. I believe we also have several Southwestern folk (e.g., Barbara in Arizona, Lazlo in New Mexico, Lee in Texas) and a couple of Pacific Northwest representatives (Robyn and Jennie). I'm a bit fuzzy on our Midwestern membership, though E(lipse seems to be in the St. Louis area (right?). Going beyond North America, the U.K. group is not so small as Slarv suggested -- in addition to Slarv, there's Lem, Trevor and Tim (aka the_copse, whose next album we're eagerly awaiting). Other British folk living elsewhere in Europe include Lissu in Finland and John in France (whom I'm including on faith that he will return to us shortly). The Down Under contingent includes Paul in Brisbane, who got the list started, kept it going smoothly for years, and put together the web page upon which many of o ur faces can be seen. But we must also include John, currently raising ostriches in Tasmania. Well, that was a little longer than I anticipated, but it takes a while to get around the globe :-) My apologies to folks whom I have left out of that little mini-catalogue, human memory being the fallible thing that it is. If there are some areas of the world omitted, do speak up!
