Utter bummer! And, no, I'm not referring to the strike, actually. It's just that I was a scant hour's drive from Waterloo all weekend, and I could have taken Dr. Mom out to dinner. Iowa's not such a bad place. I just went for a job interview there the end of last week. Incredible organization, outrageous salary for the area, the ability to travel to support human rights/women's rights, and the option to write features for a nationally-syndicated NPR radio show (Common Ground.) But... it *IS* in the boonies. And, it's a scant few miles from Cap't. Kirk's birthplace, to reference another Alloyite's message. (And I'm not sure whether or not that's good or bad...) Sorry to be a virtually silent member of the group. Job hunting and overwhelming angst about life in the big city has been an all-encompassing thing. BTW, I think "The Flat Cake" is an inspired name for the birthday collection. However, as a non-participant in activities of recent months, I think I should abstain from any voting, AND get my hand slapped for even saying anything this late in the game. Take care, all. The boonies aren't so bad when you come right down to it, and with the internet now, it seems people can live anywhere they choose & still stay up on cultural events, and still be able to shop anywhere they please..! <> Yeah, Dave and I know a bit about this too. Boston is so half-assed! No small town in the boonies could be as bad as this, even if it is more boring. Anyway, there's nothing the city can provide which could make up for being able to see the milky way clearly at night, getting to walk in the woods when it snows... etc. <> I thought "The Flat Cake" was the most fun title too...
