Hey everybody, I'm totally new to the alloy list and I probably won't be around long. But I have some questions about the man that I hope *someone* can help me with. I was directed here by Mr. Robertson himself! First off, I'm wondering if anybody knows anything about the apparent disappearance of "The Golden Age Of Wireless" from music stores. It seems that even on-line stores can't order it anymore. I'm wondering if this means an imminent deluxe re-issue is in the works. My second question is about the "1981" version of "Europa And The Pirate Twins". Is it really a different version than the one on the US CD? I ask because I am trying to compile a complete "Wireless" album, featuring all the tracks that ever appeared on it's various incarnations. If "Europa" is indeed different, I guess I'm going to have to purchase the 7" single. (Unless it's the version on "Retrospectacle".) Thanks! Thanks everyone for their insights into the intricacies of video. I had no idea that PAL was VHS; I assumed that it was like beta in the sense that incompatibility would be quite obvious. Of course, I tried it out and it's PAL format. The ever-generous Robin had already sent me a copy from laserdisc, so I am not without, but I was just so excited to have an authentic copy! Anyway, now I have a PAL video that I might one day transfer to US format. Other than that, I have a really neat (though expensive) full-color TGAOV case! Congrats Dr. Mommy! One of the guys in Rob's research group just defended yesterday--he was a bit late to his own defense because he drove his wife to the hospital in labor! Perhaps some other members can assist in your query. I doubt that there would be a deluxe reissue of TGAOW but given the current wave of 80's nostalgia a reissue of some sort would seem inevitable. You know, considering that I'll be flying off to europe next week, I'm pretty glad right now that I'm not a famous musician. Your chances of surviving a plane crash are greatly deminished if you're a famous musician. Let's see... what tapes should I take to listen to on the flight? Maybe some Buddy Holly? Stan Rogers? Richie Valenze? Stevie Ray Vaughn.... And just think, should I go down in flames the very last thing I will have recorded will be my contribution to this year's Project B-day. Child induced sleep deprivation is nothing like study indiced sleep deprivation. First comes the "I can't get comfortable with this basket ball where my tummy used to be." lack of sleep combined with the "Damn I gotta go pee again" lack of sleep. (For the husband it's "I can't fall asleep because the 'hippo' beside me keeps tossing and turning." lack of sleep and the "Damn, she's gotta go pee again" lack of sleep.) Then there's the "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" sleep deprivation which is like having a drill being rammed through your head at every angle. And then when it's finally stopped, you have just enough time to get cozy under the covers before it starts again. Then you've got the "Diseased Child" sleep deprivation which runs the gamit from being a simple case of the sniffles which leaves your kid coughing and whining all night to the more dreaded serious illnesses that'll have you up all night sick with worry. Then you've got the "My Child's An Evil Teenager" sleep deprivation. Bad grades, bad attitude, bad crowd all equals bad night's sleep. And if it's combined with the "My Child's A Horny Teenager" sleep deprivation you're really not going to be getting any Zeds. It's 12:15 and s/he was supposed to be home from the date at 11:00 and all you can do is think of how horny YOU were as a teenager, which doesn't help at all. And speaking of horny there's the "I Haven't Got Any Since The Carter Administration" sleep deprivation, which may not be true, but ever since the kids came into your life it sure feels that way. Gone are the days when you could swing from the dining room chandelier bellowing out lustful Tarzan calls. Now if you do manage to get a little nookie it's gotta be quick and quiet. Nothing feels like hitting a brick wall head first at 100kph like being on the verge of becoming one with the cosmos and suddenly hearing "Mommy... I need a glass of water." Oh yeah, compaired to all that "I Gotta Pull An All Nighter" sleep deprivation is a piece of cake. At least with that you can order a pizza and guzzle Jolt cola. Ain't nothing in the world that'll help you with child induced sleep deprivation.
