I had waited 14 years for the opportunity to see him in person again and he certainly didn't disappoint me in the least! He gave an excellent demonstration of Beatnik's capabilities (the web page for 7-Up being a wonderful example) and even helped a band to begin sonification of their webpage with Beatnik in front of a live audience. Afterwards he kindly obliged my request to autograph album flats of Astronauts and Heretics for Alloy members. I have 7 total and if anyone is interested just contact me(luckey7@prodigy.net) and I'll get them out to you. I just ask that you pay the postage since they are a little large. No need for you to ask for one Robin as I had an Aliens Ate My Buick flat inscribed to you personally! Quite a day I must say! Turns out that I can make CD-Extra disks which will play on any audio CD player, and have data that is readable by most CD-Rom drives. So, in addition to the great music that will be on the Birthday CD, I can include a multimedia element to the disk. This could be in the form of midi files, pictures, etc.. How much I can include depends on the final length of the Audio portion of the CD. But I am accepting contributions anyone would like to have included in the CD-Rom portion of the CD. E-mail me if you wish to contribute. I will check on the MAC compatibility of these files. I have a feeling that's what TMDR uses since Headspace does not have a PC Beatnik editor yet. But a Windows Midi to Beatnik converter is now available - yippee! He said it was a toss up between Screen Kiss and Budapest By Blimp. I mentioned his show in VA Beach in '84 and asked if he recalled fallimg down twice on stage. He laughed and said he didn't remember it but enjoyed hearing about it again. Apparently playing Radio City Music Hall in the '80s was quite a thrill even though he was sick during that time. When I mentioned the Alloy server he asked me what my handle was and I told him "just Mike" but mentioned that I had made the comment about the Culture Club/Human League/Howard Jones show which he responded to. He remembered the e-mail and his reply but said he generally leaves Alloy alone to its' members probably due to the demands on his time. I also remarked that I couldn't get Beatnik to play on MIE and he explained that it will be more adaptable in the future as new features are adapted into the web browser. It's not often that you meet a person that you have admired for some time and have them exceed your expectations completely but that's exactly what TMDR did with me. He was a very kind, soft-spoken, and patient man as people asked him technical questions on top of us die-hard fans asking him all sorts of musical nonsense! My thanks go out to Thomas for making a dream of mine come true. By the way, took lots of photos if anyone is interested I might be able to use a friend's scanner to post some om-line. Thanks for the reply! I took photos of TMDR with you in mind since I know how you enjoy seeing Dolby in his many phases. Can you guess what he was wearing for the conference? No classic specs I'm afraid! Also, I got a kick out of seeing your photo on the Faces To Names page-I hope to post one soon.
