We're trying to write strings to the database via embedded SQL that may contain apostrophes. As you know strings are contained in apostrophes, so as soon as it sees them, it thinks the string has ended, and tends to blow up! It appears that we have an answer now, but unfortunately it'll take hours and hours to go through the entire program and fix it. If you know of a quick-fix (ie SQL syntax) or something that'd be great! Everyone here's getting really stressed, except me, of course. I'm really unpopular because I'm doing all the testing and verification, and I'm throwing up all these bugs which the others had never thought of, which has put us way behind schedule. Of course, if they'd been realistic at the start and not kow-towed to the client's every whim during the design phase we'd be OK................ oh well, back to the slog the_copse ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Jun 98 14:45:31 +1000 From: Paul Baily Subject: Alloy: Apologies to Beth! Hi y'all, You'll soon see three more messages from Beth Meyer. They've been hiding out in my inbox for far too long and I've been a tad too busy/distracted (in a good way though!) to forward them to the list. So, if these are repeats of those sent by others already, apologies, pay me out about it, not Beth eh? :) To Beth: sorry hon, your messages should get through direct now. Hi, folks; I just thought you might want to know that the 3-day road trip with the loaded-up car went very smoothly, and I am now safely ensconced in my new apartment in the Denver/Boulder area. Just this afternoon I drove in, but now I feel quite ready to start my new job tomorrow. Let's see how quickly they can crush my spirit completely... ;-) Thanks again for so many wonderful good wishes! It was quite a treat, here in a new place, to download my 100 messages and "hear" so many familiar voices. By the way, Keith, JAMac, or Erik - can anyone tell me what the good radio stations are around here? Oh, and I brought a little something from Atlanta for Keith (which he can share with the rest of you Denver denizens if we can all get together sometime soon). Well, having driven for over half the day and then carried scads of boxes and computer components up two flights of stairs this afternoon (#$@*! third-floor apartment), I'd better get to bed before I drop - Cheers, Beth Beth Meyer bethmeyer@mindspring.com - ----------------- End Forwarded Message ----------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 09 Jun 1998 23:47:50 -0400 From: Beth Meyer Subject: Re: Alloy: Hiding in the Back Row Yippee! Welcome back, Melissa! The timing of your return was interesting -- I was just about to send you a private e-mail message, just to make sure that you had the e-mail address that will work after I head off to Boulder this coming Sunday. (That's bethmeyer@mindspring.com, in case you missed it.) Of course, I was also "just about" to do a kazillion other things, so it's hard to say when I would have actually gotten the message out, but still... Please add me to the list of people who would love to hear the stories of your latest travels, however you choose to send them out (I don't think anyone on the list would mind, but it it makes you feel too self-conscious to send it out to the entire list, we understand!). I can certainly vouch for the fact that Melissa always tells the most wonderful travel stories! Cheers, Beth P.S. The graduation day countdown is at T minus 4 days (it will be 3 days in about ten minutes). According to the Office of Degree Certification, I'm ready to go. But after so many paperwork snafus, I have nightmares about going up to be hooded and having them skip my name because I didn't meet some obscure gym requirement... - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Beth Meyer School of Psychology Pager: +1-404-866-1362 Georgia Institute of Technology FAX: +1-404-894-8905 274 5th St. gt9020a@prism.gatech.edu -or- Atlanta, GA 30332-0170 bmeyer@psy.psych.gatech.edu http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gt9020a/ - ----------------- End Forwarded Message ----------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Jun 1998 07:59:00 -0400 From: Beth Meyer Subject: Alloy: Various stuff Hi, folks; Well, in 24 hours, I should be wearing a goofy-looking hat and gown and preparing to file into the Georgia Tech gym, along with my friends Yiwei and Larry and about 5000 electrical engineers. And then, in about 60 hours, I plan to be driving out of Atlanta for good. Yesterday I was pretty frantic, but I feel a lot better now that I've finished and distributed the second of the two decent-size papers I have due on July 1 (for conferences, not for school, obviously!) Now we'll see if I can get mostly packed today, since I'll need to spend tomorrow and Sunday with family and friends. Whew! So, here are a few miscellaneous things I needed to ask about. First of all, Paul, would you be so kind as to change my Alloy address to bethmeyer@mindspring.com, whenever it is convenient? I was waiting a little while, because it will not be easy for me to respond to mail at that address until I get out to Colorado. But then, at this point, I probably won't be sending too many more messages before I get out there anyway. Don't worry, I'll also be able to forward messages from the old address to the new one, so I don't *think* I'll miss anything. Second, when is that deadline for getting art to Robin for the birthday art book? I keep forgetting. (I guess I can only keep about three deadlines in my head at once. Of course, if that deadline is also July 1, I will freak. Just so you know.) Also, is the deadline for recorded messages any different from the deadline for songs? Cheers, Beth (who, while sorting and packing, will be pining for City TV!) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Beth Meyer School of Psychology Pager: +1-404-866-1362 Georgia Institute of Technology FAX: +1-404-894-8905 274 5th St. gt9020a@prism.gatech.edu -or- Atlanta, GA 30332-0170 bmeyer@psy.psych.gatech.edu http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gt9020a/ - ----------------- End Forwarded Message ----------------- ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V3 #162 ***************************
