"Late April" has come and gone with nary a peep from The Beatnik. >> Okay, I thought about it last night, slept on it, and considered it once more this morning, and I've definitely come to the conclusion that yes, I have no idea what you are talking about Miles! It must be a pretty well-kept secret, if it's something I might have been let in on and even I don't know what it is. Are you writing in code? Even yesterday evening... I turned on the tv when we got home from shopping & they were playing Thomas' episode again! I'd never seen that stunning b&w photo of Thomas which was shown full-screen during his intro, but I hope I can find it somewhere, I LOVE everything about it!! Can any of my fellow Alloy members possibly offer any info about this image? hint... it features Thomas playing a violin, and sporting a lovely hairstyle which is rather different from his usual in those days... his bowhold is actually quite good in this photo - especially for someone who (I assume) didn't in fact play the violin. With the proper background, this whole image could look very much like something Winsor McCay might have come up with!! I used to have several promotional posters for "HYPERACTIVE!" with the same photo. Post a message if you'd like one and I'll see if I can find them. I also have a bunch of "Golden Age of Wireless" buttons if you'd care for one. The initial photo of Dolby shown during the intro is the same image that appears on the reverse of the Japenese pressing of "Golden Age" I believe. Can anyone confirm this? I've sent you a detailed e-mail concerning your offer :) I know I'll be made fun of relentlessly by my fellow Alloy people for never having seen this image before... but as I explained privately to Michael, I have a history of being a chronically broke artist & never got out to the record shops much. Back then I mostly got to hear Thomas' work through the good graces of friends who made tapes for me. My proudest possession from those days is my Thomas Dolby Blinded By Science mini LP with 5 songs on it, which I actually scraped enough money together to purchase, and featuring Thomas running across a swamp away from some giant contraption, a thing which my fifteen year old mind spend a good many hours marvelling at (when it wasn't marvelling at the remarkable figure of Mr Dolby in action, or at the machine's controls on the back of the record sleeve!) Brown" Subject: Alloy: A thought for Ian Dear folks, I spoke to Ian today who is having a somewhat tough time of it considering it is Mother's Day and he lost his mom not so long ago. You might drop him a comforting email at: igifford@hotmail.com or if you receive this in time, you could contact him via his radio show (it's on Sunday evening) at: justforfolk@hotmail.com (hope I've got that address right!) or on the request line at: 519-661-3600. If you have Real Audio, you can hear his show at: www.chrw.fm.net I hope everyone had the opportunity to contact his/her mother today - I had a very pleasant and comforting talk with mine today. I feel fortunate that she's still around, even if we're miles apart. And Happy Mother's Day to Robyn, Elaine, and anyone else on the list who's responsible for bringing new Dolby fans into the world! I hope all the Alloy moms had a wonderful day, and were spoiled rotten by adoring family members. I'm so excited because I get to visit my mom next weekend, we haven't seen her since January. She was having a peaceful day at home today, receiving calls :) Happy Mother's Day!! Robin - who once again wishes she knew how to make one of those darned e-mail 'roses' out of keyboard symbols, especially for this occasion!!! ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V3 #126 ***************************
