I usually tape the show and watch/listen to it the next day as I'm using the computer. The guy siiting in for Paul Shaffer was African-American and was introduced most nights. I may still have most of the shows in tape, so I'll check out his name when I get home. I'll also post what nights I still have on tape and confirm that he was not on those nights. - ----------------- End Forwarded Message ----------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Jan 98 20:37:20 +1000 From: Paul Baily Subject: Re: Alloy: tshirts, Paul, disbelief >You are a wonderful spokesperson for us. So, what's your column going >to be about - what's your specialism? Thankyasir! Well I have lots of 'specialisms' but don't worry, I'm seeing a doctor about them. :-) I'm teaming up with a good friend of mine in Adelaide (we used to do Mac support, systems integration and consulting there for a few years) to take over the Help Folder section. Previously when Aust MacWorld had a much closer relationship with it's US counterpart, Luke wrote it with two US guys. Now that the Australian version is going it alone on this bit, we're doing it ourselves. It's basically a 'Dear Abbey' for Mac users where we write answers to the more interesting & tricky problems some people hit while using the critters. Really good being able to do it all via email since it gives me a taste of doing semi-serious work from home; something I'd really like to be able to do fulltime. Just moonlighting with this gig though, doubt it'll ever earn me enough notoriety to keep the bills at bay in it's own right. Still it's fun to do...not to mention the real buzz you get when you pick up a magazine in a shop and see your name in print (and spelt correctly at that :-). As some of you know, I have been working to establish a (very) small business, crafting wearable art and funky handicrafts (decorated rice paper lamps, etc.) for some time. Many of you fine people helped me think up possible names for my company over in the Tap Room. Well, my company is called Compass Rose Studios, and my dear friend James Quigley (an Alloy lurker, long-time Dolby fan, and talented graphic designer) has recently completed work on the Compass Rose web site. There are additions to be made and technological hurdles to overcome (James calls it "a work in progress"), but it's ready to be viewed by a larger group. Some folks here on Alloy were my "beta testers," and they offered excellent comments and suggestions. Bless you all for helping out! Now, I'd like to offer it to all of you for your feedback. The url is: http://www.erols.com/jamesq/crs/welcome.htm Please feel free to send comments to either me (mjordan@goodwill.org) or to James (jamesq@erols.com) -- use the feedback links in the site, so we know that they work! I hope that some of you will have the time to take a look. I know that we have some very technologically sophisticated members in this group, and I really value your opinions. With best wishes for a lovely (and for some of us) long weekend! Cheers, Melissa Melissa R. Jordan Associate Director Goodwill Global Inc. I wake in a cold sweat, knowing that the responsibility of keeping Alloy running smoothly = is on my woefully inadequate shoulders. Oh...um...you were referring to that less vital Paul... Ok, fine, I guess I just want my tapes. I did get Beth Meyer's. Comments to follow later! Hey, Keith! I work now, am making money, and I believe I owe YOU a beer this time. What you say we meet again? I get off at 5:00 so maybe we could meet at the Wyncoop @ say, 5:30? If the downtown traffic isn't too bad. Let me know when you'd be available. JAMac - (Dennis S.
