CnspiracyX : hello hyprguy CnspiracyX : just fine MsSakamoto : Peachy keen. And you, Hyprguy? Hyprguy : I just got through uploading some of our guests music to a new doc here in the matrix! Icematrix : Hey hyperguy Hyprguy : If you click the GO button on the Matrix screen, you'll see it. Icematrix : coolness hyperguy, Thanks, man CnspiracyX : I'm sorry...just got here, who's the guest? Icematrix : Dr. Fiorella Terenzi Hyprguy : Our guest tonight is Dr. Fiorella Terenzi, an amazingly talented lady who specializes... CnspiracyX : tanks... Hyprguy : in music inspired by astronomical mathematics, and more! Hyprguy : She's here as Stardocfio Icematrix : Astrophysisist, Musician, MsSakamoto : Icematrix: I would suggest "Quantum Mechanic" for a good idea of what she sounds like. Icematrix : Beautiful woman (Sultan voice) MsSakamoto : !!! Icematrix : oops, I know I'm turning red MsSakamoto : I can tell, all the way over here! Hyprguy : Where are you, Ms. Saka? MsSakamoto : Ohio. Middle o' nowhere. Icematrix : All this time, talking about her marital status, good looks, and printing her picture, and Icematrix : she was just sitting there Hyprguy : My mom was from cleveland. Icematrix : MsSakamoto, please slap me MsSakamoto : Not to mention the Father Guido bit. You're not the only red one. Slap me, too! CnspiracyX : anywhere near Wadsworth? MsSakamoto : My father lives in Cleveland. MsSakamoto : Closer to Cincinnati. MsSakamoto : Me, I mean. CnspiracyX : understood/// Icematrix : You ever hear that line about not getting a second chance to make a first impression... MsSakamoto : Stranger things have happened! Hyprguy : And often right here! MsSakamoto : Many times...sadly, I'm the one who that line was made about! MsSakamoto : My cat has five kittens...brand new...any ideas for names? CnspiracyX : hyprguy...where's tdolby this evening? if you don't mind me asking... Icematrix : good question Spectr69 : Is Dolby going to show up? MsSakamoto : Making the world safe for democracy... Hyprguy : Somewhere in Northern California, hangin with his incredible family, no doubt. Icematrix : MsSakamoto, if you were into 80's stuff..... did you ever use computers in the 80's? CnspiracyX : but of course... MsSakamoto : A TI 99/4A! Icematrix : YES! Icematrix : ME too Hyprguy : I never know whether he'll show, but he knows the good Dr. very much...I think you'll... Icematrix : did you play any of the Adventure International games Hyprguy : see why. MsSakamoto : Speaking of TMDR...I'm now listening to the Toys soundtrack...it just happened upon MsSakamoto : "The Mirror Song"! MsSakamoto : What did they make? CnspiracyX : I've never heard anything about his family... MsSakamoto : I've got a TI emulator for my new computer. WRDSMTHY : Hi Hyprguy! MsSakamoto : I've got all the games I had then, and then some! Icematrix : ummm Adventureland, Pireates Cove, Mission impossible, A bunch of text adventure games Icematrix : all on tape, but one on cartride, return to pirates isle, that was on cartidge MsSakamoto : I had Hunt the Wumpus, A-Maze-Ing, and a few others that have faded out of my memory. Icematrix : Hunt the Wumpus, you only get one arrow! =) CnspiracyX : do they show signs of advanced intelligence like the father? Hyprguy : 2 minutes until the official---chat Hyprguy : Hi Lynn! Hyprguy : Welcome to the Matrix MsSakamoto : I know. Hyprguy : in music inspired by astronomical mathematics, and more! Hyprguy : Welcome Fiorella! MsSakamoto : She's so groovy! WRDSMTHY : Hi Fiorella! Hyprguy : I've been a fan of yours for years. MsSakamoto : Good evening, Dr. Terenzi! StarDocFio : Buonasera to all of you! Hyprguy : What's the latest in terms of music from you? StarDocFio : May 10. Dr. Timothy Leary tribute CD on Mercury Records. Hyprguy : That's great, who else is on it? StarDocFio : Moody Blues and many other artists celebrating the good doctor. Hyprguy : Tim was also a friend of mine. We miss him in this community. Hyprguy : I know people are always commenting on the connection between your music and the astro... StarDocFio : He had a very special philosophy of life. WRDSMTHY : So Fiorella, I know there is a correlation between math and music, but how does music come Hyprguy : physics. I'd like to know when you made the connectrion, and how. WRDSMTHY : out of astro mathematics? Hyprguy : same question really StarDocFio : The first connection was between radio astronomy and sound. WRDSMTHY : Well, I've never heard her music so I'm trying to "visualize" the sound CnspiracyX : same here... Hyprguy : You can download samples of her stuff... WRDSMTHY : So does the music then contain sounds from space? Hyprguy : by clicking the GO button off the MATRIX screen. StarDocFio : What you see in the Universe can also be translated into sound. CnspiracyX : she's so heavyyyyyy... StarDocFio : The music comes later. My work involved tranforming radio waves from galaxies into sound. CnspiracyX : that's not a dig... Hyprguy : Who's idea was it for you to do a tour of planetariums with your music? StarDocFio : Music, fantasy, philosophy, imagination, feeling are my contribution on top of my research. Icematrix : Dr. Terenzi, Where do these radio waves originate? How far do they travel? Hyprguy : Brava! StarDocFio : The tour idea was mine. I love space and the feeling of wonder we all have by looking up. Hyprguy : Ice has a question I know you can answer. ArthurK NY : Hello. StarDocFio : The radio waves comes from a radio galaxy 180 million light years away. MsSakamoto : Dr. Terenzi, my mother, who is looking over my shoulder, was wondering if you think that MsSakamoto : time travel is possible. CnspiracyX : do you not listen to art bell? Icematrix : If you can open a wormhole, with the force of a collapsing star than jup though it unscathed CnspiracyX : radio show... Hyprguy : welcome Icematrix : time travel is possible, theoretically StarDocFio : Time travel is not possible for the moment but you can travel at speed of light with your .. StarDocFio : thoughts and imagination. Hyprguy : A roundtrip of the US portion of the internet takes 99 milliseconds! ArthurK NY : The physicist Kip Thorne showed how theoretically it's possible to time travel... ArthurK NY : through a wormhole. Hyprguy : But the imagination is far deeper! CnspiracyX : well said... StarDocFio : Isn't that fantastic. We are really one brain. One wire. Hyprguy : Fiorella, what are some of those dreams and visions of the future that you hold? MsSakamoto : :-) Hyprguy! I have to go right now...it was great! Thanks, Dr. Terenzi! Hyprguy : by ms saka Icematrix : Bye MsSakamoto StarDocFio : I hold a vision of the future where finally we can commune with the Universe. We can learn.. StarDocFio : formulas and numbers but also poetic truths about our life too! Hyprguy : I share the poetic side, and am awestruck by the science. WRDSMTHY : Bye MsSakamoto StarDocFio : Imagination is always far more deeper than reality. Hyprguy : In fact, I'm blown away by the events in the heavens this year! Icematrix : Hale-bopp is incredible Hyprguy : Like for example the comet that is visiting us. Know anything about it? Icematrix : I've been checking it out for the past few weeks StarDocFio : The Universe is just continuosly changing, evolving, transforming. StarDocFio : Hale Boop comet is one of these new phenomena. Like the Shoemaker Levy comet. Hyprguy : This Sunday here in Northern Calif. we'll see Hale-Bopp and a lunar eclipse simultaneously! Naysiedoo : Can you only see this in Calif.? WRDSMTHY : What time on Sunday? Icematrix : Hale-Bopp is 25 miles in diameter, the one that took out the dinosaurs was only 2! Hyprguy : After sunset, probably 7.30-8 ish StarDocFio : There are great pictures of the comet on Pic Du Midi Observatory in France. Hyprguy : Can we get to them online? StarDocFio : I get most of my images on line. Hubble Space Telescope is just phenomenal. Most of my... StarDocFio : CD ROM was developed on line, gathering images and sound from all over the globe. CnspiracyX : hypr...there are some stunning pics on art bells web site Hyprguy : What is the name of your CDROM and where is it available? StarDocFio : It is called "Invisible Universe" (Voyager) and let's you explore the Universe beyond human. StarDocFio : sight. Most of what we can NOT see in the Universe, is what matters. Hyprguy : Wow, I'll definitely be checking it out. And how about your website.... Icematrix : can you give us some examples doc? Hyprguy : what can people expect to find when they visit there? EVARGLUM : WAZUP Hyprguy : welcome evar Icematrix : Everglum, Hey WRDSMTHY : sayonara Dr. Fiorella. I'll look for your web site! Hyprguy : Our guest tonight is Dr. Fiorella Terenzi, an amazingly talented lady who specializes... Hyprguy : in music inspired by astronomical mathematics, and more! StarDocFio : You can preview my work on www.fiorella.com. It combines art and science. WRDSMTHY : Hey, before I go, I'm planning the next Contact Conference, which integrates, art science Icematrix : Doctotr, when in space, do radio waves ever deteriorate? Hyprguy : You can access the site by clicking the button on the previous screen. Hyprguy : Yes, more about CONTACT? WRDSMTHY : and anthropology. Perhaps you might be able to present there? WRDSMTHY : Well, we had an art gallery featuring art that was really based on space exploration StarDocFio : I am not familiar with the conference but talking about Contact, by Carl Sagan, I liked ... WRDSMTHY : I was thinking that perhaps a concert of some kind presenting your music. WRDSMTHY : It would be very cool I think. Hyprguy : Good idea! StarDocFio : the book very much. Did you? How about an E.T. signal? WRDSMTHY : This conference is full of writers, Nasa scientists, etc. This would really fit in very WRDSMTHY : well. WRDSMTHY : The next conference is March 6,7,8 of 1998 in the Santa Clara area. StarDocFio : I'd love more info on the conference. Please send them to fiorella@fiorella.com. WRDSMTHY : I will. Hyprguy : Speaking of books...I understand you're working on one, yes? StarDocFio : When I perform in concert or lecture, there is where I feel complete. Music and science... WRDSMTHY : I haven't read Contact, but I do believe that it is a possibility...and not just bacteria StarDocFio : meets the people and we all share the same beat. WRDSMTHY : Agreed StarDocFio : Bacteria, yes, how about other planets nearby, outside our solar system? ALundell : Hi Fiorella! Has Hale-Bopp inspired any new beats? Icematrix : Dr. Do radio waves ever deteriorate in space? Hyprguy : All energy is subject to entropic degradation... StarDocFio : The comet ...not yet but I had a fantasy about it ... humm. I have a favorite cosmic drummer WRDSMTHY : They must deteriorate. Hyprguy : except Fiorella's music! WRDSMTHY : I wonder who that drummer is? Hyprguy : I'm auditioning..! Icematrix : I can tap my foot... WRDSMTHY : Two drummers is better than one? ALundell : Fantasy, eh? We want details!!! StarDocFio : My favorite cosmic drummer is a fantastic pulsar in Vela. Quite fast and extremely uptempo. Hyprguy : I knew it...a superstar! StarDocFio : Two drummers...that an idea. I should use a binary star system! WRDSMTHY : Now you're talking! WRDSMTHY : or should we say gazing? StarDocFio : Super Star. Mega Star. Giga Star and Tera Star! Hyprguy : :-) ALundell : Speaking of binary, have you noticed the comet has two tails? Hyprguy : What's the punchline? CnspiracyX : no punch line... CnspiracyX : he speaks the truth ALundell : tales, then... WRDSMTHY : miles to go and tails to tell! Hyprguy : It's all an illusion... StarDocFio : Thru my telescope I saw so many cosmological events that sometimes it reminds me... WRDSMTHY : Isn't everything? StarDocFio : of what's happening on Earth in between people. WRDSMTHY : In what way? Hyprguy : The coma (head) is made of many different materials, each of which is effected differently... ALundell : Really? Like who's in who's orbit? Hyprguy : by the solar wind. Hyprguy : yes...continue please WRDSMTHY : Are we like the cosmos in our synergy? WRDSMTHY : Or in our conflict? Hyprguy : ? RThurF : Hello Dr. Terenzi. I just came in. What are we discussing?? ALundell : Or perhaps the outer is a reflection of inner space.. RThurF : What is cosmos...synergy? Hyprguy : Rthur, just follow along Icematrix : I want to discuss where I can get an autographed picture of her reclining on the milky way.. RThurF : Uh...ok Hyprguy : www.fiorella.com StarDocFio : All in the Universe is related to something else. Galaxies attract each other as people do. WRDSMTHY : Dr. F said that thru her telescope, she's seen many cosmologic events that WRDSMTHY : remind her of how people interact on earth. I think. RThurF : How did you become interested in astrophysics? Icematrix : hypr, that's just a scan Hyprguy : ice, drop an email: fiorella@fiorella.com StarDocFio : Galaxies might fall in love too. Don't they? WRDSMTHY : Maybe you need to check out a porn site, Ice. Hyprguy : My stars! Icematrix : WRD, that is one of the pictures on the CD Icematrix : that fiorella made WRDSMTHY : Oh, I see. Icematrix : I wasn't trying to be nasty StarDocFio : Yes, the picture is the one also on my web site too. It is my favorite but some ... WRDSMTHY : I'm sorry, I thought you were getting cosmic! RThurF : As in, love as a biochemical reaction, or magnetism... ? or gravitational pull? RThurF : galaxies in love... Larshash : hi StarDocFio : conservative professor told me that ....would it be better to wear a turtle neck. StarDocFio : Bio chemical reaction, magnetism and gravitational pulls happen to us also. StarDocFio : As above so below. Icematrix : Well, Dr. That's okay, you still look good in a lab coat and glasses... =) WRDSMTHY : Yes, the true nature of love is hard to pinpoint, no? ALundell : "Galaxies might fall in love too. Don't they?" A part of us a part of them.... ALundell : If we can feel what they feel... ALundell : and vice versa, perhaps... WRDSMTHY : If so, then we can truly blame a bad day on the Cosmos, no? StarDocFio : Encouragment, NONE!!! As a women in Italy it was very difficult to study physics. RThurF : I can well imagine. WRDSMTHY : I imagine so. So what made you continue to seek that knowledge? StarDocFio : I like the question about feeling. I ask that to myself too. Feeling of wonder... WRDSMTHY : Well, are feelings extensions of our thoughts? StarDocFio : of loneliness of extreme power. Aren't we like supernova? RThurF : You must have had to just study anyway, going on instinct that this is what you wanted to do WRDSMTHY : Well, some people don't think animals have feelings so they would surely WRDSMTHY : scoff at the notion of space having feelings. But why wouldn't it? ALundell : Perhaps the feelings of within are truly reflected out there, in the "illusion." StarDocFio : I wanted VERY MUCH to become a physicist. Instinct and extreme drive and hard work. RThurF : The power of being able to chart your own course in life often frightens people into . . . RThurF : complacency. StarDocFio : If I were a men it would have been much easier!!! WRDSMTHY : If you were a man, it would have seemed "natural", not an amazing thing at all. RThurF : Most of the really interesting and gratifying fields of work are like this. Icematrix : But then, You wouldn't have looked so good in that silver dress... ALundell : As a woman, do you see yourself bringing a new element into astrophysics? StarDocFio : Men are common in the scientific community. I had to repress my femininity for a very long.. WRDSMTHY : Icematrix is demonstrating the attitudes that I'm sure you've dealt with often StarDocFio : time. I had to behave like a man, act like them, look like them. WRDSMTHY : over the course of your career. Can you leave the physical for 30 seconds Ice? WRDSMTHY : She has a brilliant mind! Icematrix : oh WRD, I am just trying to bring a little cheer to some otherwise deep philosphical topics MK BUTHEAD : whatz up? StarDocFio : As a woman, yes I definatevely brings new elements to astrophysics. Icematrix : once in a while a little comic relief is necessary... RThurF : Are there many male colleagues who are bitter about the attention your ideas have received? StarDocFio : I embrace all the fabolous discoveries of astrophysicis but I do not stop there. ... Hyprguy : MK BUT, our guest tonight (StardocFio) is Dr. Fiorella Terenzi, Icematrix : Dr. Fiorella, I applogoze if I have offended you, and WRD too... StarDocFio : I want these discoveries to swim in our imagination, I want them to resonate with our ... StarDocFio : every day life. ALundell : Where are you taking us, Fiorella? RThurF : My husband is interested in astrophysics, but the science community seems very competitive. StarDocFio : My male collegues, the ones that want me in a turtle neck, some of them are bitter to me. RThurF : He is a painter. WRDSMTHY : That's unfortunate and negative energy. If they would take that bitterness and WRDSMTHY : need to control you and put it into their own theories, how exciting astro WRDSMTHY : physics could be! RThurF : The competition in science seems unhealthy in a lot of ways. Icematrix : It's funny, The guys that discovered the Hale-Bopp comet, one of them just saw it while Icematrix : watching the sky though a telescope on his driveway WRDSMTHY : How cool Ice. StarDocFio : That's why I stepped out of the laboratory to propose a new scientist. Icematrix : he was just an ameture WRDSMTHY : What kind of scientist? ALundell : Can a new scientist every embrace the full spectrum of human experience? WRDSMTHY : Isn't the problem with science the same with academia... the old funding game? RThurF : Did your music studies stem from a need for creative release, after having to deal with RThurF : all the male attitude problems in academia? Icematrix : Funding will be a problem, WRD, it must cost immense ammuonts to build those Arrays WRDSMTHY : That too WRDSMTHY : But there is intense pressure to research and publish to get grants. StarDocFio : I became a better scientist when I was unafraid of my instinct and imagination. WRDSMTHY : Right, and the old funding game inhibits scientific creativity. RThurF : That's exactly the line my husband and I are interested in, as far as science is concerned! Icematrix : I know, it's like television networks send up more satelites than science programs do... StarDocFio : The music is the only release I have. Music takes me back to the Universe and puts me... WRDSMTHY : Yes, I think science can be a creative process in the same way writing and math are... WRDSMTHY : and music. MK BUTHEAD : Is this Science Class??????? StarDocFio : in touch with myself. As a scientist I have to hide myself all the time behind numbers. ALundell : But is not art and science combined something beyond either hence you are more than a ALundell : scientist Icematrix : Dr. Terenzi, do you play any musical instruments? WRDSMTHY : Yes Buthead Hyprguy : MK, we're talking with a scientist/musician, Dr. Terenzi. StarDocFio : I play my vocal chords, keyboard and piano. RThurF : You can be many different things in life and still be each one of them fully. StarDocFio : But I am a virtuoso player when I play the galaxy via my sampler. ALundell : Are you exploring the new uses of the internet for getting your work out there? WRDSMTHY : I really must go, but I will look for your music Dr. F and also send you info WRDSMTHY : on CONTACT XV. Icematrix : bye WRD WRDSMTHY : Goodbye everyone, it's been wonderful chatting with you all. Bye ice! Hyprguy : later Wrdsmthy StarDocFio : We are moving from single-centered artist to a Continued in Part Two! In the Matrix Chat Room, 9PM ET, 3/19/97 multi-centered artist. Hyprguy : Multi-centered? StarDocFio : Without the internet and technology I would not be able to get my doctorare neither to... StarDocFio : write music. Icematrix : Dr. Terenzi, have you thought about visiting Boston at all? RThurF : You are working on a post doctoral thesis? StarDocFio : Multi-centered=scien ce+music+technology+femininity+philosophy etc.. Hyprguy : Now that's evolution! StarDocFio : I lecture at MIT in 1989 at the Experimental Music Studio. I love Boston. It was great! StarDocFio : I feel that this is the country where things are happening. I could not do this in Italy. Hyprguy : I understand that there's a new magazine about to hit the newsstands with you on the cover? RThurF : What other projects do you have in mind for the near future? StarDocFio : No yet post doc but I am writing my research proposal on "radio computer music astronomy"... Vlade201kg : olleh Vlade201kg : hilo Hyprguy : Bow...this is a hosted chat with Dr. Terenzi. StarDocFio : or what I simply call "Acoustic Astronomy". Hyprguy : Our guest tonight (StardocFio) is Dr. Fiorella Terenzi, an amazingly talented lady who specializes... Hyprguy : in music inspired by astronomical mathematics, and more! Vlade201kg : Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh RThurF : Is this related closely to traditional radio astronomy? Bow121384 : DR WHO? Icematrix : no, that's the bbc Icematrix : This is Dr. terenzi Vlade201kg : Are you famous StarDocFio : My book by Avon Books will be out in March 98. It will come with a concert tour too. Hyprguy : To learn about our guest, click the GO button from the MATRIX screen. Hyprguy : What cities will you visit on tour? ALundell : A comprehensive synthesis I assume... StarDocFio : Yes, radio astronomy combined with sound synthesis language using sound to investigate... StarDocFio : the universe. Icematrix : Doc, what time are you going to be with us in the matrix until? StarDocFio : 40 or 50 cities in USA plus Europe and Japan. It will be a multimedia show. The audience... StarDocFio : a big part of it. Hyprguy : We're almost done, but it's up to her, ice. Hyprguy : I can't wait to know more about the show. ALundell : What is the most profound thing the universe has told you so far? RThurF : I can't wait to see you, Dr. Terenzi! We'll look for your book & the tour. StarDocFio : You can see a preview of my work in the new magazine VERGE by Times Mirror. StarDocFio : Newstand on April 8. The pictures are just great! RThurF : Dr, do you paint or do any visual artwork? Hyprguy : We're almost to the end of the hour...final questions? ALundell : Is it all play at this point? StarDocFio : I do not paint but I love any space-related art work very much. Icematrix : Can I get that Autographed Picture Doc? I'm A nice guy, Honest... =) RThurF : I admire you very much. best of luck doctor! Hyprguy : I want to thank our guest... Icematrix : I appreciate you Taking time to talk to us, Dr. Terenzi Hyprguy : Dr. Fiorella Terenzi, not only bright and talented, but a great conversationalist! Real Audio (I think) does the same thing in their promotional mails thereby putting the message at the bottom (or top) of your inbox ahead of all the other mail. They were selling a surround sound home entertainment system, and they were using The Gate to the Mind's Eye to demo it. Specifically, the segment being shown was Big Bang Backwards. I hope Thomas got residuals from that. // Lee Jackson, Garland TX // Author, Game Music and Sound Design Center // http://bounce.to/ljackson ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Dec 1997 21:28:17 EST From: RThurF Subject: Re:Alloy:messagefromTMDR/ten years & three months from now In a message dated 12/29/97 5:37:54 PM, Keith "Cookie" Stansell wrote: >Now the real question, did Thomas receive your question 10 years ago?.... > >Here's the header for our timeless leader's message: > >> From: Thomas Dolby >> To: alloy@smoe.org >> Subject: Alloy: message from TMDR >> Date: Thursday, March 20, 2008 5:17 AM Then it's even worse than I thought... it isn't even Christmas where Thomas is! Is it the vernal equinox he's celebrating?? I'm beginning to think that poor Thomas may be stuck in a chronosynclastic infundibulum. I KNEW he must be plotting some kind of space program of his own, once I laid eyes on all of that strange equipment in his EQ photo earlier this year. His Christmas message could really be a thinly-veiled plea for deliverance from this interstellar peril he has blundered upon!! If you're reading this, Thomas, don't be afraid... we'll think of something!! I would've replied sooner, but a) I got way too busy over the holidays to read mail, let alone write it, so I got behind and b) I had to see if I could borrow stereo time from a friend, as what we've got is getting too much static for my taste. Obviously, it's not going to be out by the 31st, but I should be able to manage late January. I should send my address to your CServe address, yes?
