(or Solstice or Hanukah or whatever else would be appropriate/politically correct, of course!) I got a copy of "Aliens Ate My Buick" as a christmas present, so I finally got to hear it. :) It's different, and I really like it (now that I'm not automatically listening for the "density" that many of his other songs have... the sounds in many of the "Aliens.." songs don't seem quite as complex to me, which isn't bad, just a bit of a contrast)... I think "May The Cube Be With You" is particularly catchy, and kind of funny, because it doesn't take too much of a stretch to interpret it as being about computers.. the whole "You might care to spend an evening with Marilyn Monroe.." etc bit makes me think of all the futurist cyberpunk people babbling about what we'll be able to do with DNI and virtual reality. Perhaps I'm just weird though! On a similar note, does anyone else think that "Budapest By Blimp" has a rather Prefab Sprout feel to it? The opening chords make me think of the openings of "When Love Breaks Down" and "Desire As", and there's something more subtle about the whole thing that seems like Two Wheels Good (Steve McQueen) era Prefab. It's still very Dolby too, and especially pretty. The whole album somehow went quite well with my best Christmas present - -- a Paasche Double Action VL Airbrush! Now I just have to figure out how to use it... >:) Just thought I'd share... :) Oh, and now that the holiday rush of activities is dying down - and I have a few new CDs in my collection - I'm getting more and more confident that I'll be able to participate in the music exchange too.. it sounds kewl. :) -- E(lipse "Half the western world is turning on to Dolby's Cube..." ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V2 #297 ***************************
