He's almost well known as a producer : Bob Geldof, Tina Turner, Howard Jones, The Fixx, The Waterboys, Celtus, Stevie Nicks, Les Negresses Vertes, Saga... among others. As a musician, he did some very impressive albums in the eighties, very synths oriented : "Immunity", "Waving Not Drowning", "The Wildest Wish To Fly"... He just has finished producing Thanks To Gravity and is now working with Rat Bat Blue. 'Still doesn't mean nothing to you ? Anyway, this List is great. I didn't know that Dolby's fans were so involved in drinking beer, but each days provides new knowledge. I've downloaded all the files to my hard-disk and they all work fine, suggesting that the problem is with your setup, not the page. FWIW, I think you need the RealPlayer 5.0 multimedia jobby, as opposed to the RealAudio sound-only thing, to get it all to work properly. Especially if you are able to play the streaming files and you have the latest version of the Real Player (they are now up to Version 5.0, no longer a beta). The only thing I can think of is what extension you are saving the file to when you download it. It should have a .ra extension on the file. Other than that, I'm not sure. I'm no Real expert, I just know enough to download the encoder and post the files. I'll try to figure it out, but it's hard to do since I'm not having the same problem. I'll look back through the digests (some I haven't read yet) and see what others are saying. Sorry for the troubles. - -- Keith Stansell Denver, CO __________________________________________________ http://www.concentric.net/~kasman ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 07 Dec 1997 15:55:12 -0700 From: Keith Stansell Subject: Alloy: Now (finally) for your listening pleasure! I didn't read this message until just now (Monday morning.) Strangely, when I was getting ready for work this morning, I rifled through my Windham Hill CDs until I found Arial Boundaries and tucked it in my bag. That's what's playing now. I've got goosebumps. What a sad thing. Strangely, too, on Friday night I dreamed of a plane crashing into an apartment building, and then woke to the news of that awful crash in Siberia. - -- Melissa Melissa R. Count me in! > >Same here, however, be prepared, as I seem to have developed a recent liking >for the Spice Girls and Hanson. Ummm...I kinda hope you're kidding. But even if you're not -- and indeed, I find I can take a certain perverse pleasure in even really cheesy pop songs -- I think that the main idea of the tape is to introduce fellow Alloy members to good music that they are not likely to have heard. So including stuff that's gotten so much radio airplay that people in Burkina Faso are humming it would kinda defeat the purpose. So, for example, I did not include any U2, even though I'm rather fond of many of their songs, simply because most everybody on the planet has some idea of what U2 sounds like. Basically, I considered my tape to be a sampler of good stuff I'd like to pass along, rather than simply a collection of my favorite songs. It's a subtle distinction, but it made a big difference in my choices. And what is there is still personally significant. That was my approach, anyway; by all means, do what feels right to you. Regardless, this crowd would probably love "XTC vs. Adam Ant" :-) Cheers, Beth (who is now paying the price for having fiddled with the tape rather than working this weekend) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Beth Meyer School of Psychology Pager: +1-404-866-1362 Georgia Institute of Technology FAX: +1-404-894-8905 274 5th St. gt9020a@prism.gatech.edu -or- Atlanta, GA 30332-0170 bmeyer@psy.psych.gatech.edu http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gt9020a/ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Dec 1997 23:47:07 -0500 From: Beth Meyer Subject: Re: Alloy: The Big Music Exchange (proposed) Hi, again; >>> Excellent idea!
