I picked up a copy of Contact for 50 cents. I finished reading it and I thought, "Wow, that was a neat book. Too bad it can never be made into a movie." Then I turned on the TV and Siskel and Ebert were talking to David Letterman about a new movie about to come out based on a book by Carl Sagan called "Contact". What the..... how the heck can they make a movie of the book Contact? It's got way to many characters for your standard Hollywood movie and there's just too much going on to it in 2 hours. After talking to some of my friends who have seen the movie it seems they just eliminated half the characters completely then amalgamated the rest into a handful of single characters. As well a couple of parallel plotlines were eliminated. I'll wait for the movie on video. I saw the tour with NiN.. maybe 4 years ago? A lot of people hated it, but we thought it was swell. I was taken in by his stage presence, especially vocal projection. When Trent & the boys were finished, their last song was Scary Monsters, and it was a joint effort with Bowie. After that song they were gone & Bowie was on. We thought that was a perfect segue.. and it was nice not to have an intermission. The only low point was the slamming freaky weirdo children dressed in black with spray painted hair, black nails, and black lipstick that had come to see NiN. Aside from hoping I never looked that stupid when I was younger, it just made me feel old. - -- Elaine Linstruth Palmdale, CA (USA) ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V2 #272 ***************************
