School is a wonderful place where children learn everything from the art of manipulating a beurocracy to how to deal with being assaulted by someone twice your size. As far as what is actually taught in classes...well its not really much but it isn't in any government's best interest to have a well educated populace, and this is especially so in a government where the officials are elected (ignorant voters love slogans like "one thousand points of light" and "building a bridge to tomorrow" give 'em a flag and they'll follow it). However we have a free press and lots of free libraries and the schools do try to teach kids to read. So if a person desides they want an education, they can certainly take one for themselves. Malcome X did this. I continue to do this. some of my friends do this.
