Lots of brass instruments used in that song...which leads me to my question for anyone to answer: What was the purpose of the Dolby's Cube project(s)? I mean, why didn't he just use "Thomas Dolby" in the "Dolby's Cube" projects? Was he going to use "Dolby's Cube" on his collaborations with his idols and his soundtrack work? I read that he was also going to use "Dolby's Cube" on the Gothic soundtrack too until Dolby Labs stepped in. It makes me wonder if "The Lost Toy People" would have replaced or merged with the cube, had Dolby Labs not stepped in. Enough! I can't tell you how much fun it's been to actually view many Alloy people's snapshots on Paul's page. I think this must have led to a greater feeling of familiarity amongst us. The random flirtation which resulted immediately afterward should be taken as nothing more than pure silliness - though I sincerely apologize to those whose time it wasted. I do agree that once an actual argument moves toward threatened physical violence, it should definitely move out of Alloy. Otherwise I've never minded in the past when we tend to drift "off-topic" somewhat, whether it be about the Star Wars film trilogy or international politics. The atmosphere here has remained lighthearted and friendly & we always do return to the topic of immediate interest. Thomas' work is what brought us all here to begin with. As far as the work on Dave's and my page (another inadvertant source of silliness I'm afraid), I didn't think it had really become a major topic of discussion on Alloy itself. I've mostly been corresponding with people directly about it. The rest is either genuine artistic curiosity, or just banter, but like all the other off-topic topics, we seem to have moved on now. Alexander) Subject: Alloy: Fear in the "White" City. All those comments I made on racial (for CRACKERS sake; cultural) tension in Denver. . .scratch that. Actually it's more religious than racial but definitely has something to do with race. You've all heard about the Timothy McVeigh trial being held here in Denver. But I don't know if you've heard the latest activity that is separate from the trial, yet directly related. A few days ago, an officer was killed by a skinhead who was committing a robbery for a friend of his who was just trying to get back at her lover. The skinhead either died from gunfire from the officer or killed himself. Well, it was a terrible tragedy, especially when the officer had a 2 year old and was very involved in the community, especially the schools. He was also studying for his PhD. Well, since then, several scary events have taken place. A dead pig was left at a police station with the dead officers name scrawled on it. An African immigrant was beaten then shot to death at a bus station, and the 'good samaritan' who tried to help him was shot and is now paralized from the waist down. Some other incident arose in another part of town (I think it was a robbery) and they locked down an entire square mile of the city. I don't know if they caught him. There was another skinhead that was pulled over on a narcotics charge and they found narcotics, a gun (the same model used by the skinhead who killed the officer) and a book for that particular gun. I didn't hear the news yesterday so I don't know what else happened. No body realized that the skinheads would get so upset. I think we forgot they were here. But considering that the Oklahoma bombing trial is here, it's now making sense. I think that they should do like the German government did recently; absolutely no tolerance. The worse thing about these guys, that makes them worse than the gangs (who are running a drug business for profit despite anything other excuse they use) is that they have a religion. Worse yet, it's based on the worlds sickest ruler, Hitler. Worse yet, it's in my back yard! And it doesn't matter what color you are. The woman who tried to help the African immigrant at the bus station was white. I guess if we lived there >there might be more crisis and drama in our lives, but here in Canada >it's just not that big a deal. And the people who it is a big deal to >are so small (in every way) that they just don't matter. My uncle (definitly a red-head) married a woman who was part American Indian and part Mexican. They ended up living in Vernal Utah for some years where the Mormons are very, very strong. She used to complain to my mother that they wouldn't serve her in restaurants and even skip her in check out lines! My mother thought she was just making up stories until she went out shopping with her. I lived in Casper Wyoming for 7 years and there was hardly a racism problem there. The town was filled with cowboys and punks and witches and traditionals and whites and blacks and others, etc. and nary a problem. So it very much depends on where you live. I now live in a black neighborhood in Denver Colorado and find the people on the streets to be colder (because it's a major city) but acquaintances are warmer. Yet everyone openly talks about differences in race. And, of course it's not in a negative spirit. However, the young kids you have to watch out for. So many are in gangs who demand that you give them respect, especially if you are white like me. Hopefully they grow up but often they dont (they often are killed before that happens). So as not to get CRACKERS uptite, I use the term race because that is what everyone else uses, though I definitely agree very much so on CRACKERS use of the term "culture". My mother freaked when I was interested in a girl who was part black, part Cherokee. She rented the movie "Guess whose coming to dinner?" so as to educate me. The relationship didn't work though anyway. I wasn't tall and blonde enough for her. I am concerned about genetics, but in a good way. Bear with me here. I'm blondish-red, blue eyes and freckles. I have to wear sunglasses or suffer seriously and a day in the sun requires SPF 50. I do not tan. It is my conclusion that I must marry someone with more 'color' or I would be torchuring my children!
