I just sent my pic off to Paul. I had a look around the scrapbook and a good chuckle--not at YOU ALL, but at how different the pictures I have in my mind look from real life! It's like reading a book and then seeing the movie--the characters are all different. So the scrapbook is quite useful. Crackers, you've really got that Mark Mothersbaugh thing goin' on. We cover Whip It and I'm making up some of those red plastic hats ("energy domes") which I think you would look smashing in! Beth, thanks so much for the Egghead song!! I printed it out and have it posted outside my office! I'm a self-admitted geek, so I wasn't in the least put off. Happy Birthday Melissa and Elaine, and Happy Anniversary Robin! Rob and my 3-year (dating) anniversary is the 4th. We'll be going to San Antonio this weekend to see the Fixx--my other favorite music. Suzanne--my bday is March 14!! Pisces rule! Very good work everyone. I'm quite impressed, and wish I could have done something musical. I would like to share your great work with the others in the group who were for whatever reasons, were not fortunate enough to get their own copies. What I would like to do is post in RealAudio selections from the tape on my web page for Alloy members to listen to only. I need your OK to post your recordings. As you can see below, I have permission to do this from the original copyright holder, the man himself. You may reply to me personally or via Alloy. Could someone forward this to Ian Gifford, I don't know his Email at the moment. I was showing my colleagues the scrapbook today and they fell about laughing when they saw the pic I'd sent in. I felt quite hurt really, I thought it captured my youthful exuberance quite well, particularly as I am often accused of being too serious when having my photo taken. This particular one was taken on the balcony at the apartment we stayed at in Ibiza last year. I only sent that one as it's the only one I've got scanned at the moment. I was toying with something different, me in my official capacity showing off some software at last year's internal office exhibition, for example, but it wouldn't have been so much un. I mean, what's wrong with flip-flops, baggy swimming shorts (shorts??? ha, ha) and my 'Surf's Up' T shirt? >Very much like the sort of person with whom you'd love to share a pint. Share?!?! SHARE??!!!!?? Oh, OK then, [aside 'A pint of Boddie's, Barliman, if you'd be so VERY kind, and two straws.] Now then, on to the other pictures. First of all, I thought Crackers had unplugged the internet again, as the only pic I managed to see was Miss Sakamoto. A much better pic than those shown at alt.slack when we couldn't really see her face. When I tried any of the others my PC either hung or disconnected me from my ISP. Could this be Miss S's bid to dominate the world? I tried again later and managed to see my own pic, then Croydon's (Lem to you) and Crackers.' The latter reminded me of Brand X's 'Moroccan Roll' album cover, but this is probably a coincidence. Cliff's died on me about half way through resolving itself; Thomas' came out OK but that was all. I think we're near gridlock, or is it netlock, again. I'll have to try again tomorrow. I'd also like to applaud Paul's efforts in putting the scrapbook together. Nicely done, not too fussy. Tick VG. Off at a tangent, our sandwich student asked me who this Thomas Morgan Dolby was. (He's a mere 19 years of age and hasn't heard ANYTHING by Thomas.) As luck would have it, I had Astronauts & Heretics with me, so I plopped it into the CD drive so he could hear for himself. Could be another convert with a little encouragement. It is a very old digitizer that has been long since discontinued. Although it is actually capable of full colour imaging at 640x480 resolution, as well as 4 channel video mixing, the software I have for it is very limiting in what I can do. So that's the best that picture will come out. I've searched the net over for some better software for it, but I've had no luck. I found one programme mentioned that will let me do the colour imaging and full motion video capture, etc. It's called "Storyboard Live!" by IBM. I contacted them to get a copy of it and they told me, "Oh, we're sorry, but that product was just discontinued last month." The product that replaced it isn't compatable with my video capture card either! Damn! So I asked the lady if they could look and see if they had a disk they could copy for me and a manual to photocopy and I'd still gladdly pay for the programme and she said they couldn't do that. When I asked how I could possibly get a copy of this programme she told me to contact local schools (they sold a lot of copies of this programme to schools) and have one of them pirate it for me. Sheeeesh! Here I was going to pay them for the discontinued software, and they were telling me to pirate it! So i searched for a bootleg to no avail. I've given up now and just suffer along with the crappy software I got with the card. What the heck. It only cost me $15, the video camera alone is worth more than that! As well as concrete pigs, toads, turtles, gargoyles, wee children that pee into the bird bath, "lawn jockeys" (these used to be little black men in jockey outfits that were used to hitch horses to. But as the automobile took over they then marked the ends of driveways, sometimes electrified with a lamp in their uplifted hand. They began to lose popularity, due to racial tensions, in the late 70s and now adays what few lawn jockeys that are currently produced are white) and various religious icons of the virgin mother. As well we have plastic windmills, sunflower pinwheels, cartoon characters whose feet are pinwheels to give the illusion of running, and the ever popular Plastic Pink Flamingo. The PPF had a huge resurgence in the 80s (most likely to fill the void vacated by the "Lawn Jockey") and there is one amusing story that took place in toronto. A mentally insane individual, over the period of a few years, had stolen thousands of PPFs. He then stole a dump truck, filled it with the PPFs and took them to the Humber River where he dumped the contents into the river so that they might make their way to Lake Ontario and Freedome. Commuters were treated to the early morning suprise of thousands of PPFs lazily floating their way down the Humber River. As well PPFs are popular with the campus crowd. They have their asses and the tips of their beaks removed and are then used as beer funnels to funnel beer down the throats of college students who find themselves in urgent need of intoxication.
