Infact, the only reason I ended up making the J-card was because nobody else volunteered to do it... well one person did, but he only had a black and white printer and the people who said they would like to submit artwork said they'd prefer a colour printer. Some of us are not really inclined to strut our best stuff in this realm, which is probably why more people didn't (or couldn't) participate. Next time we should consider doing something that the rest of us can feel competent at, too. Some ideas: illustrations of how we feel about Thomas' songs, works of photography, portraits of Thomas himself, or some other work of physical art - - and perhaps short stories or poems relating to Thomas' work. These can be collected, photographed if necessary, and made into a very nice hand-bound volume. Dave and I would be very happy to to collect the various artwork and put together the book in time for the next BIG DAY. I know that steps were taken to provide the artists and writers among us with something to do on this last project, but really, there's only so much space to work with on a J-card. Doing a different project (or projects) would give Thomas something new to look forward to, and maybe then I won't have to feel like such a DWEEB next year, with just my cello and Radio Shack tape recorder with condenser mike! (We can of course include a tape of our own music with the rest of the artwork, so Alloy's wonderful musicians can shine too) What is the concensus? I can understand you being upset but I don't think it should be directed at me. Be pissed off with all the people who said they'd submit artwork and didn't. I'm upset too about some parts of the B-Day tape, mostly people who said they would contribute a song and then didn't. But I'm also a little cheesed that people who said they'd like to submit artwork and poetry didn't. As for the microcassette, well if that's all you had to work with I'd just have to understand and accept it. It's like if someone were to put a 8-bit, mono, 11KHz sample of my song on the internet I'd understand that it was being reduced to fit in the limited amount of space available and I'd just accept it and have faith that they'd do as good a job as they could with the reduction. But perhaps what would work best would be for someone to volunteer some webspace and everyone can send their Dolby inspired artwork and poetry there. I don't know, and I don't care. Next year I'm not even going to attempt to accomodate an art and poetry side of the project. Someone else can volunteer to do that and if nobody does then it just won't get done. I'll just concentrate my efforts on the music side, take dibbs, and try to motivate people to contribute recorded greetings and songs. You can do the artwork aspect if you like, and if people want to bitch about it being in black and white tell them that unless they're volunteering to take over and produce a colour product they can bite your fuzzy bits.
