I hope I am doing this right. I just subscribed to alloy for the second time but is my first time replying. I am not sure how this e-mail system works since I have never joined ANY mailing list such as this before. I was finally able to segregate my e-mail workload from my "fun" e-mail list. However, I am pissed that I am unable to post on the FES site. Let's hope something comes up that is twice as better to warrant my apologetic annoyance. crackers@hwcn.org wrote: > > Well gang, if you want to take a sneak peak at the J-Card it will be available > to download at... > > http://www.hwcn.org/~ad329/aliens3.gif Neat...! Now that I have sent my submission, how do I know it got there?! Also, it is a little bit too late for me on the warning of sending cash through the mail. While I am bitchin', let me say that this was a disorganized birthday arrangement (It wouldn't be like me not to complain, of course). JAMcallister, old FES member, didn't know anything about this birthday arrangement and he was one of the first to come up with the idea and have dibbs on his selection. I bet there are a lot of FES members out there wondering what the heck happened! There is no BULLETIN BOARD CLOSED sign on the FES web site, and Lord knows, the addict we were in daily postings. And now that I am through with my petulant frenzy... Hi everybody!! Some of you might know me and the rest of you...well...let's just say you WILL GET to know me. I promise to subdue my FES BB alter ego. I don't like to fight; although, I tend to be very candid. Thus, I am usually a target for vendettas. Let's get on with the show...shall we?! electrix, formerly electric. Hi y'all, Our host, Jeff Wasilko, is moving house so the server Alloy is on (jane.smoe.org) will be temporarily off the air *THIS THURSDAY* (11 Sept 97) from 7am until as late as 5pm (US East Coast time) while he swipes some network hardware to work with the phone company to get the new connection commissioned and tested in preparation for the big move in about a week and a bit. Any messages you send to the list during this time will be delayed until the server is back on the air - they will get through though, so no need to repost if you fire one off during Thursday. Jeff also advises that turnaround times for your messages for the following day may be a little longer than usual while the server chews through the backlog. Let's >hope something comes up that is twice as better to warrant my apologetic >annoyance. They're working on it, honest. Plans are afoot for a revamp of the official FES site, including, I believe, a new incarnation of the Tap Room. It's been a while since I chatted to the relevant people so I'll see if I can find out anything more specific and get back to you. [about J-Card, you said:] >While I am bitchin', let me say that this was a disorganized birthday >arrangement (It wouldn't be like me not to complain, of course). >JAMcallister, old FES member, didn't know anything about this birthday >arrangement and he was one of the first to come up with the idea and >have dibbs on his selection. Understand your frustration, and empathise. From a FES point of view it would have seemed that way. Sorry we couldn't contact the FES/Tap Room people as well. Alloy isn't actually an official part of the Flat Earth Society which is why I try to encourage people to sign up to both lists. I'll leave it to the main instigators of our incarnation of the birthday project to email/call you direct to see if something can be worked out. Unfortunately due to the time constraints of those involved with maintaining the FES site (who now work very hard at Headspace - check out their mischief at ) there's not been an opportunity to update the site or the FES news release list for a while now. That will change soon though, and with it hopefully we'll be able to have much more interaction with FES and Alloy, if not possibly a merging of the two. Don't get me wrong, I think Tap Room and Alloy are quite separate critters by nature and that there's a need for both fora. The former provides a dynamic semi-realtime chat environment and the latter, provides, well, a dynamic semi-realtime email list environment. (There is a difference if you look close enough. :) >I bet there are a lot of FES members out there wondering what the heck >happened! There is no BULLETIN BOARD CLOSED sign on the FES web site, >and Lord knows, the addict we were in daily postings. The problem here is that the chat engine used to provide the Tap Room was owned by Netrex, the company that used to host the FES website. Thomas is hunting down a substitute and plans to implement it when time permits, and he says it'll begin to permit a whole lot more RealSoonNow. More news as it comes to hand, and once again, welcome back electrix! stay well, Paul. ________________________________________________________________________ Paul Baily paulb@thehub.com.au Consulting SE/IT contractor http://www.thehub.com.au/~paulb Brisbane, Australia There is a spirit here that won't be broken. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Sep 97 23:07:03 +1100 From: Paul Baily Subject: Re: Alloy: Like a small clump of trees.........he's back!!!
