I spent some of my happiest years there and it was found to be the friendliest city in the US. How did they do the study? They dropped wallets with a small amount of money (and a name tag that said something like "property of...") at random locations in various cities in the US and counted how many of them were returned with all the money and contents intact. Then they dropped empty wallets (with a name tag also) as a control, and counted how many were returned in various cities. Then they did the same with letters in envelopes, dropping letters with stamps and some even without stamps to see how many of them actually got to their final location. Rochester scored the highest number of wallets being returned to the oweners and of letters getting to thier final destination, showing people's nature in that city is to be basically honest and helpful. So add Rochester, NY. A nice place to be from. David Gross gross@photonet.com > To: alloy@smoe.org > From: "Melissa R. Or alternatively that they are mostly rich and not very inquisitive :-) I'd be interested to know what the actual percentage of returns were. I'd imagine that a city could easily win with a return rate anything over 1% Lem. Hmmm. do you think they were biased? I just know that my wife grew up in New York City and each time she visits Rochester she can't get over how warm the folks are. Of course compared to NYC-types even a lampost would seem... ...better duck now...
