I'm rather fond of the art deco font Barbara used, but obviously the mechanics of silk-screening dictate we chose another--unless a sufficiently short phrase allows us to enlarge the font beyond the bleed-together threshold. > Further, it has been suggested that to rectify these and other concerns we > replace that text with "ALLOY". What a novel idea, huh? Well, that's short! :) But the interplay of the picture and phrase is the source of the design's charm, which is lost here, I think. So, how about a clearer font, maybe a shorter caption? Barbara, what are your thoughts? I'd like to be clear that the "secret society" is a geeky mailing list somehow, but I did have misgivings about putting the actual email address there. This would nicely solve that. Okay, one of my concerns from the start was that the Dolby image is quite detailed, and would probably bleed in a silkscreening deal. If we can get a reproduction quality that would make the Dolby image look nice, then the lettering will surely be fine. We can always use a different font as well. Another suggestion would be to reverse the text -- i.e. put "Alloy" on the front above the image, and then "alloy-info@smoe.org" on the back with whatever quote, for less busy-ness. I chose the "Mr. Dolby" quote because it fit the image. However, I'm not attached to that one, particularly because like Melissa said, it kinda grates, being a scientist. However, as has also been pointed out, neither the "fruit juice everywhere" nor the "that's why people fall in love" quotes seem to jive with this particular image. Perhaps we can have a lyric-search, to find an appropriate science-y but "in-joke" quote? "Semaphore out on the floor/Messages from outer space"? ;) >Date: Mon, 28 Jul 1997 09:54:05 -0400 (EDT) >From: crackers@hwcn.org > >One month left gang... get your dibbs in while you can. I still haven't decided on this deal, but we'll try some things out. I'll stay away from the dibs list and if someone else usurps me in the meantime, fine. I'll let you know when I come up with something definite!
