It's been good to see that the list has been so active of late; we've averaged I think between 5-10 messages a day, and have been getting to know each other better as a result. The other really precious thing is that some of you who have in the past stayed silent are slowly making yourselves known. A sincere thank you. To those of you who are still letting shyness get the better of you, speak up! :-) Your thoughts are most welcome here. Even if it's just a "Hi my name is Valentine Wiggin and one question I've been dying to ask Thomas Dolby is..." thanks for your time, I'll be quiet now...for hours, I promise. :-) stay well, Paul. ________________________________________________________________________ Paul Baily paulb@thehub.com.au Consulting SE/IT contractor http://www.thehub.com.au/~paulb Brisbane, Australia There is a spirit here that won't be broken. ------------------------------ Date: 20 May 97 06:30:00 EDT From: "Stephen M. SEMI_TASTELESS_JOKE : As an aside, a giggle has recently occurred to me (and I doubt that I can be the *only* one to have thought of this, but here goes ...) that, should we live long enough, some of us will eventually be singing: We're in continent in continent in continent in continent ! yeah, I warned you. My thanks to those of you who responded to my inaugural post, "One of our Trench Coats", and no offense meant, dear ladies, I only meant to please. And get a chuckle or two . . . Besides playing TMDR (I think we pretty much played EVERY track of his we could get our grubby mitts on), we played a LOT of music. Rather than boring the whole list with a long list of artists, why not check out my home page (conveniently listed below) for more info on Weightless in its current incarnation and music in general. But I've never been able to make out what's supposed to be going on in the murky background, behind the magazine cover. It appears to be Mr Dolby in a wheelchair, plus nurse. Can anyone enlighten me as to what this is supposed to be about....? Is he still on this list? Maybe we should remind him that he said he might be interested in playing a club ~(or something like that). I know quite a few people who would be interested. - -Steve ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 May 97 11:45:17 MST From: bcohen@LPL.Arizona.EDU (Barbara A Cohen) Subject: Alloy: a list question Paul, is there a way to make a digest version of Alloy? While I enjoy reading everyone's thoughts and stories, 20+ messages in my in-box is a little extreme. I'm on the Fixx mail list and they have a version where all the emails are concatenated and mailed out once a day. Just a thought! With my luck, Our Fearless Leader (tm) will suddenly get this passionate itch to perform next month while I'm on the backside of hell, trying to avoid open sewers. I, of course, won't be able to forgive myself for missing it and chuck myself off the nearest minaret in despair. (Well... the minaret on the mosque in Tashkent isn't very high, so I'd probably just get a nasty headache and a couple of big bruises - takes the drama away from it all, doesn't it?) IS Thomas still out here, or has he at last forsaken us? Maybe invoking the Hanson Brothers and the Spice Girls in the same week has finally chased him away for good! Now (she writes, playing Pollyana) perhaps we should take his silence as a sign that, betwixt all his Headspacing, he's putting pen to paper/fingers to keyboard and writing some new tuneage. Well, hey - a little optimism and wishful thinking never hurt anyone, right? If you want to switch to the digest format (where you'll get that one message per day), send an email to: majordomo@smoe.org In the body of the message, put these two lines: subscribe alloy-digest unsubscribe alloy To switch back to the "so live it's kicking your door down, rearranging your furniture, and annoying the hell out of your cat" version, do the same as above only swap the unsubscribe & subscribe words. All I know is that, being that I live in the city where he's most likely to perform, I'd better be pretty close to the *first* to be informed about it, if only by a few milliseconds in this modern digital age. I expect that hard on the heels of that announcement I'll be bombarded with email from Alloyites worldwide politely requesting me to BUY EVERY TICKET AVAILABLE AT ALL COSTS, though I suspect Bass or TicketMaster will come into play at that point. On the other hand, TMDR has a history of sneaking into town to perform-- specifically, when The Lost Toy People played up here in 1987, the gig was announced in the paper as "featuring Major MTV Star," with the small print reading, "(She Blinded Me With Science)." Boy, was I lucky to catch that! We can but hope we get more of a warning when the time comes... > Melissa (who ran into Gillian "Agent Scully" Anderson yesterday while > waiting for those dreadful passport photos.
