G'day John, >Well, I guess I'll take the floor for a bit. Alloy is the main character in The Gate to The Mind's Eye who (amongst other things) sees to the end of the current universe and the fresh beginning of a new one. I picked that name because I thought the list had a similar role; i.e. the end of the Kaleidospace dolby-l list and the official FES list becoming open. As is the case with most things involving the uncertainty principle, things changed along the way: the FES list stayed as it was/is and Alloy has begun a valid existence in it's own right becoming a proper list. BTW, in case anyone's curious, the Alloy web pages (containing this very question and more) is honestly nearly nearly nearly ready!! They forecast storms here Sunday PM so if I'm not watching lightning flash over cane fields or surfskiing, I'll be up to my elbows in Claris Home Page finishing my pages off. More news as it comes to hand. While I'm in your face, many thanks to those of you who've taken the time to answer these questions, I for one have really enjoyed them...and it's a relief to know that I'm not going through some email version of the Langoliers. :-) stay well, Paul. ________________________________________________________________________ Paul Baily paulb@powerup.com.au Consulting SE/IT gun for hire Brisbane, Australia There is a spirit here that won't be broken. ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V1 #83 **************************
