Jordan" Date: Thu, 5 Sep 1996 11:46:13 -0400 Subject: Alloy: A Dolby Travel Moment Hello, all! My apologies for any typos - I'm tapping keys one-handed today (the result of a really moronic kitchen accident yesterday) - and I can't say much for my limited skills... Yesterday, I flew back to DC from my home town on the Mississippi. Since my first flight after I got a copy of "Wireless," it has been my ritual to listen to "Flying North" during take-off - it's my travel mantra. Now, though, with restrictions on playing Walkmans during take-off and landing, I can only think the song in my head. During periods of great stress or mental fatigue, I have been known to sing songs out loud without realizing it (to which someone in this group can attest.) Yesterday was a stess fiesta, and, during take-off, I started quietly singing "Flying North." I got as far as "Metal bird dip wing of fire/Whose airlanes comb dark earth/The poles are tethers we were born in..." and realized that the man next to me was staring and smiling. I was mortified, but he just grinned and said, "Thomas Dolby. Way cool." Made me smile. We're everywhere! Oh - a side note - I apologize for the somewhat haiku-ish format my messages may take when they appear on your screens - it's a little internal quirk here in the land of primitive technology. It drives me batty, too. Cheers, Melissa "Well, you can still listen to your Walkman on take-off on Aeroflot. Then again, you can bring a goat as your hand luggage on Aeroflot..."
